Re: rca model P46920BL
This could be a remote problem, try it while the remote it out of range/no batts if so just replace the remote.
Pull the batteries out of the remote - fixed? Then:
Check the switches, sometimes people clean the set and fluid drips down corrodes the hidden switches and some components near them.
If not that check continuity of the switches
Another thought, is if you have compact floresent lamps
in the room, these can cause some IR interference that
can trigger events on your remote control input.
last, does anyone near you has the RCA TV? mybe other remote is effecting your TV...

Do you live with someone who likes practical jokes; even silly ones?
There are a number of companies that make remotes that can mess with someones TV or other remote devices. I have a watch, as a gag, that will self program its remote to operate any TV capable of this feature. With this watch, I can change channels, power status and even reset the TV to factory default state. Next time this happens, look behind you.
j/k Perhaps your remote is all wet underneath the buttons, you can remove the batteries from the remote to remove this as a possibility, If the tv comes on still and changes channels still, then you know its not the remote. You may also have defective batteries leaking acid all over the place in there. If it is the remote, you can unscrew and open up your remote and clean the circuit board button landing pads with rubbing alcohol and clean the other side of the rubber conductive pads that touch the landing pad area from the back of the button itself.
I have a 2000 model RCA P52923 and I had the same problem occur a couple of days ago. The sound hasn't worked for a couple of years, but the TV is connected to an RCA surround sound to resolve that issue. Most recently, while watching TV, it began to start scanning channels by itself. I shut it off and unplugged it for a couple of days, but each time that I turn it on, it begins to immediately start scanning each channel. Neither the remote, nor the channel buttons on the set are able to stop the scanning, and neither of them will perform any functions, including turning the set on and off.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Is there a prankster nearby thast has a remote tuned to your set? As a young lad I used to play this trick on my neighbors daughter.
You should also investigate whether it is timed.. that is has a regular interval or time that it does happen. It could be another appliancwe doing this A/C ,Security system or some other eklectronic device. The dog has the remote under the cushion?
What brand of tv is it ? You could have a bad tuner or a change in the voltage supply line feeding the tuner . What type of antenna do you have ? outdoor or rabbit ears ? Also does it retain the channel line up or does it clear them as well ?
