Question about Singer 7466 Mechanical Sewing Machine

Singer 7466 opening plastic case?

On Singer 7466, I need to get into the case. The foot control cable was jerked hard and the female receptical for the 1/8" phone plug end of the cable was broken off. So the female receptical dropped somewhere inside the case and the sleeve and tighting ring dropped off outside.
I remove all the visable screws from the case, and it is free outside and below the bobbin case, but not free at all from the metal sewing plate back along the sewing surface, up the inside arc of the case.
It is free along the bottom and top but hanging up on the back of the case where the on/off rocker switch projects out a little and stops the case from moving to separate from the other front half of the case

no way to remove rocker switch, and of course no help on the inside arc portion of the case. Please only answer if you've worked on this machine.

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

Nothing there on case teardowns of any machine. The Q&A is mostly needle and bobbin handling issues, and they are in the business of selling machines and parts and doing repairs- the Q&A is just to keep people sewing, not to help them do repairs.

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

This manual comes with the machine, I've thoroughly reviewed it and it has absolutely nothing about getting the case off.

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

go to a repair shop is your expert answer?

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

This answer had nothing addressing my question and the manual was how to sew (not how to repair) on a different, serging machine. Does anybody read the question before they answer?

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

no opening large enough for the parts to fall out of, and the receptical will be connected by the electrical wires that carry the foot control's signal to the motor and thus the parts will be tethered inside the case. And sew doctor had nothing to help me.

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

I have the 81 page instruction manual - nothing about case breakdowns in it. Safemanuals, diplodocs etc only have this manual. I know they promise everything, but the same manual is all they have.
I cannot unmount the switch, it is entirely wrapped in the case and presumably only dismounts with the case off. It does not budge no matter what I do.
Probably I don't need to worry about the switch area, it is the inside arc (between the needle and the selection panel of the plastic case that is still firmly together that keeps everything else from falling apart.

  • William Speckman Sep 05, 2008

STOP with the manual. I HAVE THE MANUAL. IT ONLY TELLS YOU HOW TO SEW. STOP SUGGESTING THE MANUAL, PROVIDE SOME EXPERITISE!!!

  • William Speckman Sep 06, 2008

There are no screws in the bobbin case and none that I hadn't found. I finally found and forced the two loop and tongue plastic connectors I hadn't found, one on the vertical surface of the inner curve, one halfway back from the sewing plate.

you say that the pieces you are trying to retrieve are lodged down in the case. have you tried to shake them out. I know that seems silly but it's worked before. it's a long shot and i have yet to find a exploded view of your machine.

will the case seperat from the base at all?

  • Ronald Mueller
    Ronald Mueller Sep 05, 2008

there is only three things that will keep the case fastened to the base 1.. screws and there will be a couple in the bobbin compartment. 2...around the base you will find detents that you have to pry carefully with a flat tip screwdriver. 3 it was custom glued at the factory which would be damaged if you try to pry apart. incidently if it is glued at the repair shop the would just wreck the base and assemble it with a new one and they would still use glue to keep it that way. hope this helps a little yes there are alot of hacks on this site i am trying to help you and you can keep the money i'm just trying my best

The only other solution short of finding the service manual is to go to the home page and search for repair shops in your area.

How to change light bulb on my singer 7466 sewing machine

Here's a manual for your machine:

http://homeappliance.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/singer/7466.html

Didn't find instructions re the light bulb but best guess is that the cover on the left side needs to be removed. Looks like there may be a screw that holds the cover in place.

Wiring diagram model 7466 i am trying to reconnect a foot pedal on my singer sewing machineu

The foot pedal is generally plugged in on the right side of your machine. There should be a hole that matches the end of the plug. The user's manual is available as a free download on Singer's site.

The black plastic piece the bobbin fit in is broken.

You may have a timing problem or bent needle. You will need to replace the bobbin basket if it is damaged.

The foot pedal on my Singer Inspiration is stuck on fast speed.

Hi lawoffice474...

Unplug your foot pad from the machine and the electrical receptical.
Try moving the foot pedal with your hands, back and forth as if you were pressing your foot on it.
Did it loosen up?
If yes then you still need some maintenance...
If no then you still need some maintenance.
Disassemble the foot pedal and take as many pictures as you need to be able to reassemble it.
Once you have disassembled then you will look to oil (one drop max) the pivot points of the foot pedal, like the hinge assembly, reostat linkage, etc.
Once you have it oiled then try moving the foot pedal again my hand before reassembly.
If everything moves ok then your good to go...
Reassemble the foot control.
If not then its time to replace it with another foot pedal such as one of these at this webpage below:
Please take time to rate me thumbs up.

Just bought a used model singer 6233 need to know where foot pedal plugs in

The Singer 6233 was one of the models that briefly were made using air-powered foot controls. So you aren't looking for a traditional electrical connection. Instead, your pedal cord's female end will connect onto a black male nipple, that sticks out on the right side of the machine (the side with the handwheel). Just push it on until it feels snug.

I have a 7466 Singer sewing machine. No matter how I adjust the thread tension, the top thread always pulls the bobbin thread through to the top. I am doing thread painting. The feed dogs are lowered and...

Make sure to thread the machine with the presser foot up to insure the thread is seated into the tension control.

Always free-motion with the presser foot down.

Try a lower setting on the tension.

Feed dogs on Singer 7466 wont stay up.

There is a screw behind the feed dog with a plastic nut ,you need to loosen the nut and move the screw up or down and retighten where needed,,,,,,,,,also there is a plastic support under that screw that could have come out of place ,which means you will have to open the machine to reinstall it.
