Question about Canon PIXMA MP780 All-In-One InkJet Printer
You may wish to Print [and also Bookmark this page] this particular solution by highlighting it and then printing it off using your Fine setting and plain or high bright paper, the one we know does work for you. When you see the pint dialog choose the radio button titled Selection Only by clicking on that little circle.
When ever there is a distortion of an image or letters in a document your driver is corrupted. And, simply updating a driver will not always resolve this issue.
In addition to the driver issue. You may also be exhibiting signs of a worn print head and differences between Canon factory ink (which is unique to itself) and a substitute ink (whose ink pigments are not the correct size in nanometers for the holes in the bubble jet. Or, this is also indicative of erosion of the bubble jet holes in the print head by the harsh pigments cause them to become out of round and more oval and this causes a lack of clear definition in letters printed.
In your case, the most prudent way to proceed is to perform the most simple solution first before engaging in the purchase of new print heads which can cost a good sum of money.
So, I would advise doing the simple tasks first in an attempt to resolve this problem. Then, I would encourage you to consider a new print head and ink cartridge later. More often than not, these things can be resolved without spending money, just time. But, this exercise does involve taking measures that are not all that time consuming, just lengthy and involved.
To resolve any driver corruption, the driver needs to be removed and your system registry needs to be cleansed of any remaining entries regarding the driver you've just removed. Unfortunately, not all drivers upon removal remove all the entries in your registry. This is pretty common in Windows.
I'll include the page urls when needed for all the software downloads for your printer to keep this as simple for you as possible.
Go to Start Menu, Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs and look for an entry for your Canon Printer, there may be more than one program installed as well.
If there are no entries for your Printer, go to Start Menu, Control Panel, Printers and Faxes and right click your printer icon. Select Delete and confirm to delete all files associated with your printer if you are prompted to keep them or not.
Remove your USB cable from the Printer or computer, which ever is easier to get to.
Before proceeding further Bookmark this page so you can return to this lenghty solution posted by Worldvet.
This is this page's url:
Now, restart your computer.
Once you have a new desktop get on the internet and go to this
Now visit this link below to:
Download and install this free Registry Cleaner (click on the download button in the top left) that has no Ads, nag screens or tricks, its clean and very reliable. It makes automatic backups for wyou.
After you have uninstalled the Printer and its programs, restart your computer. Then, run Registry Fixer and click on Fix. Now, restart your computer again.
Now, you want to download and install the printer driver and then the update to your printer. Your USB cable must be unattached during the install process and if you are prompted to do so, attach it the computer, by the installer and only attach it then.
To get to the download page for your Printer:
Go to this page: If 'Select OS is showing', choose Windows XP. These links below are FOR Windows XP so if you are using a different OS, Stop and post the OS you are actually using first . The Software listed further down appear to be OS independent but it pays to be certain first before causing further problems.
Download the first driver listed for your printer under Drivers
Once downloaded go ahead and install this driver, if it creates a subfolder or wants you to create one, but remember where this is for later if needed. Remember that you may be prompted to attache your USB cable during the install. If prompted to restart your computer do it when prompted.
After that success return to this page again. Again, select the OS as Windows XP.
Now, download the driver update. The second item listed under Drivers.
When you installed the driver if it created a directory to uncompress from, point Windows to that should Windows pop up and tell you new hardware has been installed and let Windows do its thing even though you have installed it already. This is just a fluke in Windows that has to be dealt with.
Now, should you choose to do so, download and install these programs that come or came with your printer originally.
If you were prompted to restart your computer again, do so and when you get your desktop back return to this page. Select the OS as Windows XP. and then download the programs below that are listed on that page under Software

It is either a faulty printhead or a defective cartridge. Start replacing the cartridge, if thet does not help you will need to replace the printhead.
