Re: Minolta SLR digital camera

No not now as the brand is dead and has been taken over by Sony- There probably never were any models that took standard 35mm lens.

How do I use it, and what is it used for?

It is used to store data on. Usually this type of memory card is used in things like digital cameras to save pictures or recorded video on. You can access the recorded content by simply plugging the memory card into the USB stick that should come with the card and then plugging the card into your PC. Or usually cameras will also have a cable with it so you can directly connect your camera to your PC. It can also be used to store other data in the same way.

Camera says: "card locked" when trying to use card

You didn't specify what type of card, so I'll assume it's either an SD or an SDHC card.

SD and SDHC cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

It says that the disc is not formatted and asks if I want to format it.

You can't use the card until its been formatted.

Formatting cleans all current data off the card.

If its a camera card, format it in the camera using the camera menu. Otherwise it still may not work.

Windows 7 doesn't read my Dynex usb 2.0 card reader

1. You have to see if the program is compatible with the Windows 7 operating system.
this is possibly due to drivers that the Windows 7 doesn't have in the "cab" files.
this manufacturer of the Dynex is your next step for a Windows 7 driver set.

Is my 2Gb SD card toast? Is it the fault of the card reader?

Card might have been friend by the reader, I certainly wouldn't try it again with another card. What happened is that when the coin connected with both sides of the reader chip, it created an electrical loopback and fried the reader. Ever taped a penny to a 9-volt battery and it got really hot and eventually melted/exploded? Same thing just happened to your card reader unfortunately. No amount of fixing it inside Vista will solve this problem, I would get into contact with the computer manufacturer and see if you can send it in for fixing. Don't mention how it broke or they will certainly void your warranty.
Please rate, thanks!
