Question about Toshiba 15DLV76 Television

1 Answer

Black menu-like box randomly appears, covering the picture

My 15DLV76 is 1.5 years old. Within the past 2 weeks, when watching antenna TV (not cable, not DVD), a black box randomly appears on the bottom half of the screen. It is a single black box, not like the 3 boxes that appear with the setup menu. If I change the channel the box disappears and may or may not reappear. Help?

    Hey, thanks for the reply!

This is actually happening with the antenna, not cable. It's been happening on all 4 of my channels. The Closed Caption was on "C2" so I've shut it off and will see what happens over the next few days. I'll reply again once I give it some time.

    Thanks!

This is a problem with closed-captioning. What you are seeing is a closed captioning box with no captioning in it. Usually this is being accidentally transmitted by the cable company "head end". Just make sure your closed captioning function is completely turned off. if you are seeing it randomly, it may well be coming from your cable company. Is it just on certain channels?

Hopefully turning it off will solve the problem. CC2 tends to cause this.....

are you tryin to get over the air tv signals, like with rabbit ears? if you are, you will need a digital converter. if you are using cable from the cable company, it is a tv issue.

you may not need the converter, but it is only in newer tvs (within the past 1-2 years old.)

My Samsung 47 has a black film covering 1/2 the screen for about

Samsung only makes TVs that last 2 years, mine also has the same problem. Throw it away and buy a cheaper disposable TV, despite all the hype Samsung is just another cheap and nasty manufacturer who uses its customers as product testers. Why do you think they keep changing model numbers every week ?

Dude, better check your cable and also your TV's power management settings. This might also happen due a issue with the HDMI output of the satellite box.

Green screen with sound from cable, but picture is fine with Wii

That would be my solution. The trouble is either in the box or your connecting cables. Verify this by connecting the cable directly to the set. Then try a new set of connecting cables, or call the cable provider to replace the box.

Samsung TV HPS4253 menu continues to pop up randomly

Its probably the buttons (hopefully) you can open the tv and disconnect this control panel most of the time. Sometimes the remote (IR) signals go through this board. If the problem continues without board connected, its likely the main board = more expensive (100-300 $ part)

LCDTV - Picture problem

Do the lines only appear on the Cable box input? It maybe be a problem with your cable. Try to isolate the problem.

Do you see the lines on all sources such as your DVD player as well? If you press the MENU button on the Sharp remote, do the lines go through the menu as well? If yes, it is most likely a TV problem.

A bunch of lines sounds like it is most likely a problem with the connection with the LVDS cable, if not that, then a defective main board.

There isn't really much you can do about it now.
Since the TV is less than a year old, I suggest calling Sharp to locate a local authorized service center.
