I just got a new computer and everything works except for the sound. I tried to reinstall the multimedia audio controller but it says that i need a CD for it. The problem is that I don't have a CD for it. Is there any other way to reinstall it and get my sound working???!!!

Because the audio driver is not installed so it is looking for multimedia audio controller...

while the purchase of the laptop they will provide a manufacture cd which contains the drivers you must install from that ..

if you dont have the cd then you can download the audio driver from the below given site:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodNameId=500746&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=432985&swLang=8&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1098

you might have to uninstall then reinstall both the driver and the sound devices
control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers or audio you will find 3 drop down lists make the necessary adjustments there or control panel, administrive tools, computer management, device manager, sound, could be a yellow question mark? right click to re-install drivers or right click select properties to either troubleshoot, uninstall, rollback driver

hope this helps

No sound other than Windows Media.

Hello there,
If is windows XP? or Vista? depending on the system, verify new updates for drivers, on the REALTEK page and specific for your computer. Another thing is view in the control panel , multimedia and sounds, if nothing is disable or mute. And up volume.
finally, verify in BIOS , if onboard audio es ENABLE. look in the Motherboard Manual for this. **
good luck!

My compaq speakers are not working

If you are using Windows Xp ,then go to

Startmenu->Control panel->click:sound and audio devices
A window should open.
If you see anywhere in the window, written ,
"no audio devices installed",
then you need to install the sound driver .

Compaq Presario v2000 ALTEC LANSING speakers not working

Hello,
The first thing that I suspect is that it couldn't locate the right drivers for installation. Still, I'd suggest that you try reinstalling the right drivers for you laptop. There's no harm reinstalling the drivers. Get the drivers for V2000 at this link, but you need to choose which OS are you using: Presario V2000 Audio Drivers. Take note too, that HP recommends that you delete your existing drivers first before installing the new ones.

The method of deleting and reinstalling can be found at Method 4: Delete and reinstall the original sound drivers of this LINK. That link includes the troubleshooting methods for audio/sound problems. You can go through the procedure that applies to you, but I'd still suggest that you do first METHOD 4.

Please let me know of your troubleshooting success by rating me here, or visit me at http://howtoresolve.blogspot.com or at http://real-online-treasures.blogspot.com .

Good luck and enjoy!

Compaq Presario v2000 ALTEC LANSING speakers not working

Go to "Start", "Control Panel", Administrative Tools, Computer Management, click on "Device Manager" on the left hand side and look on the right hand side. See if you have a yellow exclamation next to the "Sounds, Video and Game Controllers". If yes, double-click on the line with the exclamation and then click on the driver tab at the top. Click update driver and when it asks if you would like to to check the internet for updated drivers, tell it yes, this time only and continue. After this process, it should either download and install a new driver for your sound card or install the one that was shipped with your computer. If this does not work, please let me know and we will check the next possible problem.

Please remember to rate this solution.
