A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by
resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer
from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and
re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns
on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again
once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on
the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).
If that doesn't help, try the steps below:
Disconnect the USB cable
connecting the printer from your computer.
On your computer, go to Control
Panel > Printers and Faxes.
Delete the Lexmark print
Re-brick your printer by
pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged
into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
When the printer turns on,
reconnect it to the computer.
Wait until your computer fully
recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers
and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print
a document to verify that the problem is fixed.
Your wireless communication problem could be caused by several factors. Try to check the status of the WiFi light on the printer. Here's How to identify a Wireless Communication Problem and Resolution Tips.
For your other concern, make sure the printer driver is installed on your computer. The Lexmark OCR scan software, used to scan documents for editing, is available only in the install disc that came with your printer.
For the step-by-step instructions on how to scan, please refer to the Lexmark S405 User's Guide.
Follow these steps: 1. Unplug the printer. 2. Uninstall the driver. 3. Re-boot your computer. 4. Then reinstall (from the CD if you still have it) 5. Follow install instructions with printer. 6. Test the printer/scanner/etc. 7. If this doesn't work... go to canon's website and download the most current driver for the printer. then redo these steps using the downloaded driver for step 4.
If this doesn't work, return the printer if you still can.
As you just starting new you need to have a step by step instructions to make it easy for you...remmber that at all times proplems usually simple as wrong connections, not secure conection, bad cable, etc. so you need to log into HP site at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00040499&cc=us&lc=en&dlc=en&product=3418707 and they have a step by step instructions that test your system and your printer...hope that help if not let me know and I will do my best to help...please do not forget to rate the service so we can improve on it.
Google, enter "HP Photosmart C5180 All-in-One" and you can reinstall the scanner into computer...free. Under the black apple in the upper corner of screen find "recent Items" and you will find the Photosmart Studio where the scanner icon is used to scan and create a file in thecomputer.
Driver could be corrupt. Disconnect the printer or at least be sure it is turned off.
I'd do both and reinstall the CD software program that came with
the printer. When the software program asks you to connect the
printer to the USB port, do so and it should again work properly.
Hope this helps. Bud
Step 1:. Check Hardware Driver Installed Properly

deduct on your PC
Go to this link and type "cannot communicate with scanner" in the search box. Click Search. Then select the "ERROR: Cannot communicate with scanner" link. You will see several things to try to correct your problem. Usually, this error shows up if there is another USB device connected which prevents the computer from "seeing" the scanner, even though it can print without problem. So do try to disconnect any other USB device (except mouse or keyboard) and reboot the system.
What Operating system are you using? One thing I would recommend trying is uninstalling all software related to the printer/scanner, then turn off the computer and unplug the printer from the computer. Turn the computer back on then restart the computer and try reinstalling. Your problem could be that the computer is not uninstalling the printer/scanner all the way meaning the computer is still detecting the printer/scanner. Those steps would fix it if that is the case.
