Question about Sony Cyber-shot DSC-N1 Digital Camera

Flash always off

I have a cybershot DSC-N1. All else works perfectly but the flash icon shows it's always in the no flash position, whether in the auto mode, program mode or other modes. And the flash does not go work when the picture is taken indoors and in low light situations (in all modes).
Have tried taking out the battery and restarting with no improvement.
Hoping this is not an expensive repair.
Thanks in advance for your support

I was told to "reinstall the firmware" as a possible solution. How does one do that?

On some Cyber Shot model, flash can be disabled from menu, that can be the cause. If you do not get any additional error message the camera should not be faulty, probably it is just a setting problem.

One clarification

you are not able to enable the flash in any of the mode? of the flash does not operate even if you enable the flash.

if you are not able to enable the flash then you will have to reinstall the firmware.

else you will have to take it to service center to change the flash bulb

Hey,

try to reset the camera to default settings, theres either a option for this in the menus or then there is a reset button / hole.

Will look into this more.

Has it always been like this or has this just started recently?

  • Ekse Sep 05, 2008

In setup you can initialize the settings to default settings.

    Goto setup - select initialize

the message "initialize all settings Read?" appears

Select OK and make sure power is NOT disconnected during the reset process.

I had the same problem.
Touch "menu" then under the "rec mode" change from burst to NORMAL.
Then you can touch the flash icon and turn the flash on.

Did you try to reinitialize? Setup menu go down to the third Setup#1 menu and make sure you click OK to reinitialize. That's what the manual said.
