Monsalve_jes sounds like your fridge is short of gas so throw it out and get a new one is the best option

timmi4545, There is a air flow way between the fridge and freezer i would imagine it is blocked with ice.

Apr 24, 2012 | GE GSL22JFR Side by Side Refrigerator

here are some things you have to know about freezer and refrigerators.
If you see Frost build up on the back wall of the freezer you might have a defrost problem. The Basic defrost system is: Your heater, your limiter, and timer if any of these fail you should get an even frost on the back wall (Most side by side Refrigerators and Top mount models ) Note: (depending where your evaporator is located). If you have no idea what I'm talking about you should call for a repair person. On the other hand if you get the Idea let me help a little more! You can check your heater and limiter with a multi-meter. You must have the component disconnected and the limiter has to stay cold to test it! The timer can't always be tested and comes in many new forms. it could be part of the main control, or an old mechanical timer or just a electronic timer.
Your Evaporator Fan Might not be working, this fan blows the cold air from your freezer to your Fresh food compartment. You can listen in your freezer area to hear if the fan is on. You might half to push the freezer door buttons in to activate the fan. If your machine is in defrost mode the fan will not come on, so if your fan is not on just check it in about 45 min and if it is still not coming on then your fan is probably bad.
If you have a electronic damper door it could be in the closed position, preventing the air flow from the freezer side to the fresh food side. This means your thermostat could be bad, a sensor or main control board could be bad.
Question: Why are the Fresh food side and Freezer are warmer?
Your condenser coils could be dirty or Condenser Fan could be bad, this will cause your compressor to overheat and shut down causing your Refrigerator to quit cooling until the compressor has cooled down. In some refrigerators a good quick way to tell if your system is getting too hot is too feel the strip between the fresh food door and the freezer door, if this strip is hot your compressor could be overheating. Something you can do if you feel that center strip is hot , take a fan and put it facing the bottom of the refrigerator and see if that strip doesn't get cooler in about 45 min. This is only to help you till you get a repair person out to look at it.
There are many other reasons for this type of problem: Intermittent compressor start device, Intermittent Thermostat, Electronic control board problems, Electronic Thermostat problems.
One more important note to all: Freon does dissipate it can only leak. This means there has to be a hole! Filling your machine back up without fixing the hole will not fix your machine. It might run for a day a week maybe a month or a year but it is not fixed. This goes for refrigerators, freezers and Air conditioners. Don't let anyone tell you it just needed a little Freon. Your leak might be small enough for it to work for a month and then you loose all your food again!
Question: Why is my ice maker won't make any Ice?
Answer: The ice system in most Refrigerators consists of: The Ice maker itself, the water inlet valve, The Dispenser System, and the lines that carry the water.
There are many different designs.
Example: Is your ice dispenser tray in your side by side door? If it is, you might have a emitter board that detects the level of your ice bucket. This emitter board commonly fails and needs replaced to restore function to your ice maker. If you have this design check the kick plate of the machine for the Tech sheet, this sheet will help you determine your problem.
A common problem with most ice maker systems is the water valve has a slow leak and freezes the water inlet tube to the ice maker, causing the ice maker not to receive water. In this case you need to replace the water valve or the water valve simply is bad. you will half to defrost the tube if it was frozen and make sure you replace the valve.
Have you check your water filter on your refrigerator? This also can cause a problem with your ice maker and water dispenser.
Good luck with your

ck the back of the freezer / look for ice build up / if evap coil is blocked the fresh food side isnot getting cold air and the tempt of freezer is dropping . is sounds like a defrost problem caused by main board failure or heater / defrost themo . / fresh food will keep getting warmer and soon the freezer will also .. mm

Will a burned out defrost heater cause the refrigerator section of the side-by-side Frigidaire to stop cooling? I have relpaced both the thermostate and the defrost control. Frige still not...

Good day,
Only if there is a build up of frost on the evaporator coil behind the rear panel in the freezer section.
I don't know what thermostat your describing, but the one controlling the defrost system is mounted on top of the evaporator coil. it looks somewhat like this.

It must work. It can be tested with an ohm meter as long as it is cold. It should read zero ohms. As well the main heater can be tested with a meter. It should read 35 ohms or less. If either one tests bad, replace.
Once again, this approach is only for a situation where the evaporator coil is iced up. If not......
Other causes could be the fan motor not running. It is in the same area.

Lastly, there is a motorized damper located in the top left side of the fresh food compartment. It should be throttled open to allow cold air into the food compartment from the freezer.

Freezer cold, refrigerator wont get cold what can be the cause of this

lack of air flow from freezer to the refrigerator, since you have a side by side, this narrows it down a little. it could be not automatically defrosting, visual sign is thick frost on back wall of freezer, due to either a bad: main control board; defrost heater; evaporator thermistor; or safety bimetal thermostat. could also be a bad evaporator fan motor, due to a bad motor; bad main control board, or both. air damper is stuck closed, preventing air from entering fresh food side. or ice build up due to an improper door seal or other warm air source.

I have a hotpoint hss22gft that the refrigerator side will not stay cold. freezer side is 10 degrees. any suggestions

if you have an abundance of snow/frost on the back wall of your freezer, you have a defrost problem, heater, thermistor, defrost thermistat, or the main CPU could be the problem. If you have no abundance of frost on back wall of freezer, with freezer door open, "close" the door/light switch. Does your freezer fan run? if not, you have a faulty fan/possibly your main CPU as well. if you fan does run, then the damper door, which opens to let the air from the freezer into the fridge is not opening. close the freezer door, open the fresh food door, "close" the light switch on that side, and place your hand near the vent at the top left side of fresh food side. air flow? if no, bad damper door. if yes, check for any gaps in door seal, tears rips or malformations. if none of the above help, seek technical service

The refridgerator is cool, but not cold.....of course the same for the freezer. the freezer is running, just nor getting cold enough. food is thawing and thermostat is reading almost 40 degress in both...

Je your defrost thermostat, heaters or timer is not working correctly or at all. The freezer has the coils that freeze the freezer and cools your fresh food area. When your defrost does not work these coils become blocked with ice and will not let air from fans pass through!!! Leaving a moderate temp in fresh food area.

Freezer ices up fresh food side warms up Whirlpool refrigerator Mod. ED5FHEXST00, making ice on fresh food.

This sounds like a classic defrost problem. Inside the fresh food compartment you will find an Control Board. The the number one thing other than you unpluging the refrigerator is look behind the freezer back panel to see if the evaporator coils are frozen up. If so defrost with a hair dryer and let me know if the Control board has burn marks on either side. Click on link below and place your model ED5FHEXST00 into the model and parts feature. It takes you to pictures of your refrigerator. On the left of your screen click on photo #11 That will show you the area of the control board. In picture listed as #6 The part number for board is W10135900
Let me know what you find before you make any choices. There could be something different that we need to look for, Thanks, Sea Breeze
