The display of my CD player reads "open" even after I close it. The latch is intact and seems to be working. Any ideas what the problem could be?

There is a small push tab that tells the playerthat the door is closed. If this small plastic contact is shortened or missing, the player will think the door is open. This needs to be fixed before you try and use the player. If you disable this contact so it always thinks the door is closed, the laser will remain active.

In the JVC cd/mp3 player, there is an almost invisible switch to the right and slightly up that I suspect the open/close latch internally engages when a cd/mp3 disk is placed in the player and it is closed.
I fixed this problem by taking a very, very small piece of folded paper and pressing it on the plastic pop-up for this switch.
Works like a charm, and the off and other buttons function normally.

Hi!
on my Rio the contacts that tell it if its open or close are at the hinge side, 2 metal ribbons that come down from the cover side and touch other metal parts below them on the base side.
I'm not sure if this is the same on your model but check it, if not, then on yours it might detect open/close on the latch mechanism, so check to see if the latch action is normal, or if it feels kinky, sticky etc.
either way - locate the open/close sensors, and make sure they look allright, not bent, broken or dirty, and see what you can do about it.
have a nice day!
