The picture rolling is simply because the PAL decoder can't lock up to the 60Hz vertical sync pulses, even if your DVD player is set to NTSC-PAL conversion and there is no vertical hold adjustment (either external or internal) on this model set to achieve this. There is a possible alternative only if your DVD player has RGB output (not component). The JVC for example has direct RGB drive capability via the SCART input on the back panel. If you get a suitable lead you could try getting a picture this way as it bypasses the decoding and sync sep circuits in the PAL decoder chip.

When recording a movie or program, the playback rolls forward and backward causing viewing to be awful. Sound comes through, but viewing is ruined because of the rolling picture. How do I correct this...

This is often caused by dirt on the heads or other surfaces the tape touches. I would get the top off and give it a good clean with some Servisol Video 40 (you can find that online) and some cotton buds. If that doesn't do the trick it's more serious.

Not likely. They probably just need to be cleaned and re-alligned. Rates vary, but our shop charges $20 to do that.

What you're describing is a common problem for this particular unit, a bad spindle motor. In some cases the motor can be removed by the tech and torn down for cleaning.. But in a high percentage of cases shops just replace the motor... What's happening, as your symptom appears the spindle motor is beginning to spin irratically. In turn the picture can sometimes just drop out. In others it simply folds over and is unwatchable. The spindle motor is not too expensive.. Good Luck Bill

Polaroid 0722 Player

On most of the set top DVD players you use the monitor button or the remote control menu button to access the mode that flips the display (invert). The mode is for those who mount the units to the ceiling of a vehicle for rear passengers to view. You might have to have a DVD playing at the time or just loaded in the stop mode to access the feature.
