Question about Nintendo DS Lite Console

1 Answer

Dropped DS Lite - rattling

OK, so the little monster dropped it.
The plastic broke at the weakest point of the (R button) hinge.
Nothing else [major] appeared broken.

Charges fine.

Will not switch on - just nothing when the power button pressed.

Took it apart and PCB was fine, BUT a small cube was rattling around inside the case - I can solder it back if knew where it came from!
This Cube is about 1mm square, metal on both ends, but looks like black rubber in between.
-It isn't the R or L button PCB contacts - this cube is much smaller

Checked both fuses - both OK.

Any guidance before it hits eBay?

OK, so after finding some pictures on the Internet, I found out the tiny loose part was the inductor (L2), just below the power switch on the PCB. I will get a freind to solder this back on - it's really small!

If it fixes it I will be pleased!

L2 inductor comes out sometimes when dropped and the DS keeps in fixed amber light when charger is plugged in. But you found it fast so good luck. Its pretty sure your DS will work again after soldering the L2 again in its place near the power switch. Just get the battery and charger out before doing anything to avoid a blown fuse also.

You could try using a pin and slide the little black tab inside the DS where the power button was.

DS lite was dropped and now it won't work.

They usually don't work properly after they've been dropped. Nintendo carries a 1 year warranty, they will replace it for free (but not if you've used cheat codes (Action Reply), etc). I wouldn't mention that you've dropped it when calling them.

Nintendo DS Lite dropped in puddle breifly, speakers don't work

Well you do know the ribbon cable that connects the two screens is in the left hinge right? You will need to get it repaired eventualy. You many need to check if the ribbon cable is damaged in any way, if it is you will need to repair it or get it repaired. If you choose to do it yourself i'de suggest following this guide. Good Luck!

Dropped Nintendo DS Lite on wooden floor - NOW IT WON'T TURN ON

remove the battery for a few mins and put it back in and try again?
Its a long shot but theres very little you can do with this, the insides of the DS lite are REALLY small and the only replaceable parts are the screen, buttons, etc. and you cant really fix damage to the board or chips inside which presumably is whats happened here if you get zero response.
Sorry.. :(

DS LITE

Hi,

The described problem you have happens normally if you dropped the DS Lite. So thats why Nintendo states that it must have been dropped. It would be difficult to proof that it not has been dropped.

Nintendo DS Lite top screen broke on one side

The only way you can repair this properly is to replace the casing with a new one... the hinge is a common problem and over 90% of my customers on the DS and DS Lite need a new case due to broken hinges. Once the plastic bit has broken then it will only get worse. The small bit that you say fell out was the actual hinge itself (a small black part with a silver end that twists and locks your console into place when open). Hope that helps!
