Re: IBM ThinkPad G40 2388 No power
Start by checking the power supply with an ohm meter to see if it's working, or has the proper output. If the supply is good, then the problem is most likely going to be with the power management system on the motherboard, and the motherboard will have to be replaced. This could be a serious problem, so If it's not the power supply, I would recommend that you take it to a service shop in your area to have the exact problem area tracked down. A power management system failure is common in these machines, but there are a few other replaceable board components that can cause this as well.

Try powering on laptop what happens do you hear any beeps or see any lights normally if u see lights this is a sign that it is working if not your motherboard could be bad if you see lights and hear constant short beeps this means your memory can be bad, Try powering on laptop without battery and only power supply plugged in.
This is a common problem, that involves the power management system on the motherboard. There are few places that can fix the problem, and they will cost you more than replacing the motherboard. I'm going to suggest replacing the motherboard, it's much cheaper and easier than trying to repair the old board. You can find one at a decent price on Ebay. Here's a link for the hardware maintenance manual for the T20 if you would like to replace the board yourself.
