You cannot change the region, you only have 5 changes and then it sticks, but you can run this programme to play all region discs

Hi my dell inspiron 530 computer recently can't play disc ,so like most people i checked for solutions for this problem ,non of them worked which got me furious until i found out that my Region fo

To change the Region code on your DVD player, open Control Panel - System - Hardware - Device manager, and click on DVD/CD ROM drives, then right click on the DVD drive and click Properties then click on DVD Region.
You can enter a new region and it also shows you how many changes have been made.
NOTE you can make only 4 changes and the player will lock permanently on the 4th change.
If you want to play DVDs from any region you maybe able to upgrade the firmware to make it region free BUT if you make a mistake or installed the wrong firmware the player will be a piece of junk.
The best solution to make the player region free is to install a piece of software (Passkey for DVD) that allows you to play DVDs from any region and Passkey for Blu-ray that allows you to play Blu-rays from any region. There are several available on the Internet but my favourite is DVD-Region Free From: -

Help with region free

It is not the drive itself but the software what makes the "region free" job. I may suggest you to download an OpenSource program named MPlayer. While it does not have the bell and whistles of PowerDVD or WinDVD, it does a great job at playing many audio/video formats.

Anyone know if the Matshita UJ-861h ATA drive will handle dual layer dvds?

Here is what the HP site quoted as specs:

Optics: Matshita DVD-RAM Uj-861H (CD-ROM / -R/-RW - 24x/24x/24x,
DVD-ROM / ± R / ± RW / ± R DL - 8x/8x/6x/4x)

Looks like + and - R Dual Layer is a go!

My blu-ray player on my acer aspire 6920 isnt reading a blu-raY MOVIE I JUST BOUGT

i`m pressuming you are in the uk ? if so !

Go to acer arcade deluxe
select "Play Movie"
Select "settings"
select "BD settings"
Select "region code"
Select "region B" for the UK

Important Note!:
You can only change your region !!! 5 !!!! times!
that is 5 times!
I am totally stressing this.....5 times!

You may have to do this a second time so your computer locks on to this region code.
If you watch an american blu-ray vid, on the fifth change of the region code your computer locks to this region !FOREVER!

My matshita dvd player is locked on region 1 , i need region australia

Have you tried right clicking on the drive and click on properties:then hardware:then select the DVD and then properties again and finally DVD region, NB DVD drive can only be changed 4/5 times then it is permanent.

If this is the case then:
for either a laptop or desktop I would buy myself a nice external DVD burner (get all bells and whistles) well as much as you can afford

I need to make my acer aspire 6929G a multi region player

You can usually change the region code but only 4 times then it locks to whatever region you picked last.
You don't need to make it region free, just download a program called AnyDVD by Slysoft. It's runs in the background and removes protection from any movie dvd you put in the drive.

My matshita uj-860s disc drive has stopped working

In my case, MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S did not want to write CD-R,-RW Verbatim using software NERO 8, but is easy to write their own software windows XP.
in the Log file was as follows:

Could not perform start of Disc-at-once

Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST)

Power calibration error

whether

Invalid field in parameter
E: MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-860S

ACTION! :)
Change in method of recording NERO 8 Burning mode: DAO (Disc-at-once) at Burning mode: TAO (Track-At-Once) all have established!
Simply drive MATSHITA was UNSUPPORTED software producers to write disks.
Updating the software to burn CDs, as is windows XP supports the recording and includes drivers for the drive! :)

Good luck!
