Hard drives dont need instructions. Connect it to your computer. Go to where you would format the drive ( like disk utility for the MAC ). Format it for the proper file system ( HFS,UFS,MS-DOS, NTFS...) That's it. Eject it always before you disconnect it, and treat it gentle like a baby. In the thousands of these that I've sold and repaired, they never came with instructions, just a cd with drivers for windows.

I could point you to this, because no matter who makes the drive, it's the same product, some are just made better, and some last longer. I would just stay away from plastic. rives spin anywhere from 4200-10,000 RPMs. That can generatesome heat even after 5 minutes.

Don't be fooled by slick looking hard drives. Your're gonna put some import stuff on that thing. If it fails due to poor quality like the infamous Lacie D2, that slick case means nothing when your drive is clicking its last death and being asked to pay 10 times the cost of that drive for starters to possibly recover it. I prefer seagate drives and wiebetech enclosures. Heavy duty, no non sense hardware, and I treat these things like they owe me.

FYI, seagate (the only American HD manufacturer and the best on the planet ) bought out Maxtor 2 yrs ago.

I need the owners manual, I bought it some time ago but I have lost the manual, if there was one.

Don't think i've ever sen a manual for a Hard Drive. There really isn't much you can put in the manual.
The actual Hard Drive inside is bought from a drive manufacturer like Seagate or Western Digital. Then the drive is placed in a case made by an OEM. The case can have a built in Power Supply where you plug an AC cord directly in the Back or a Low Voltage DC Plug Pack can be used. The Interface Ports can be USB 2, USB 3 or FireWire for example.
Never move or jarr the drive or drop it while running.
If you want the specs on the Drive itself then open the case and find the Brand of the drive and Model and look it up.
That should give you the capacity & speed and access time etc.

Hope this Helps

Hitachi mobile hard drive X250 bought at Tesco but box contained no instructions. Tech guy said just plug in to USB and Go - it didn't! Need some instructions to use it - can you supply?

All you do is what the man said. Plug in the usb cable and it should open up a box in centre of screen asking what you want to do. I do not know this particular model but some drives usb cable has actually got two usb plugs. You have to plug in both as the drive requires more than the 5 volts one usb port provides.

Hello, my name is Thomas, im not quite sure that matters but, i bought a new WD hard drive about 4 months ago, after i bought a 160 GB hard drive a few years back. I'm very pleased with WD hard drives and...

Externals can be a pain. Mainly because of their casings that can cause failures to happen for no apparent reason. If your warranty will be expired and/or the drive is not showing in "Computer Management - Disk Management" I would suggest removing the casing from the external and plugging the hard drive you've extracted from the case into a desktop.

If the drive is still not recognized after being installed into a desktop I would look into data recovery. My personal favorite data recovery software is Knoppix which is an OS(linux) booted from disk.

I bought a SanDisk flash drive a little over a year ago. It opens fine on XP, where I have to enter the password to see my files, but on Windows 7, I'm never prompted to enter my password and thus can't...

The sandisk flashdrive has on the fly encryption. It encrypts it all the time when you remove it and then decrypts it all the time when you insert it unless you have a password. It's possible that sandisk has not encountered the different environment of windows 7 and did not make flashdrives ready for that os.

If all else fails, read the manual. Downloaded info on WD Hard Drive and found the answer. And it didn't cost me a cent.

Plug it into a friend's computer (in the same cables as his main drive) (Turn the system off and pull the plug out first!) Tell us if it works there.

Data loss happens all the time for various reasons. That's why you need to learn how to use a CD burning program to transfer the pictures to CD's. If you don't want to burn often, get yourself a 16GB little flash drive at least.

Maxtor 320 usage instructions

The new hard drive should be showing up for you in "My Computer". If it's showing up there you can just start copying files onto it.
