Question about Nokia N95 Cellular Phone

1 Answer

Gps connection My N95 has just come back from repair (lcd leak) and I can no longer get a gps connection. The satellites appear to be there, but I can't get to my GPS pos on the maps. The software seems to have been upgraded during the repair.

Thanks, on the way to work I had the map feature on for 40 minutes or so, and still didn't get anything - I have just phoned vodafone, and got through surprisingly quickly. They think it might have been reset to factory settings (not sure why that should be a problem) and have just sent me new settings. Just got to wait until I go outside again to try them out.

    Thanks - I'll try that

It can take a long time to get a GPS fix for the first time on a phone, either when new or after repair, as the memory will have been wiped. Leave the phone somewhere with a good view of as much sky as possible, with the GPS active for half an hour, and it will download the satellite data again. Then next time it should get a fix more quickly.

If your phone has an application for assisted GPS that downloads the satellite data from the internet, try running this.

Sometimes, there can also just be bad times for getting a fix, if the satellite geometry is bad.

Make sure you leave the phone somewhere still for a long time. GPSs often take longer to get a fix when they are moving.

Maybe try restarting the phone and leaving it somewhere as suggested?

After I have loaded maps, the device does not detect satellite any longer.

If your gps does not detect satellite anymore. Then There is a problem and the solution is for you to either reset the gps, if that does not solve the problem, then another solution is for you to take the gps out of the car where it can make direct contact with the sun, leave it for about 3 to 5 minutes so it will detect the satellite. Then you take it back into the car, if it loses signal again, then you need to get an external antenna connected to it. If it does not support an external antenna, then you need to upgrade to the latest softwares version, that should do the job.
Hope this information helped.

The skycaddie fell and the satellite has not worked since.

I had exactly the same problem. It didn't appear damaged after I dropped it, but it would no longer receive satellites. I sent it back to SkyGolf (actually I had the retailer send it back) and they replaced/repaired it at no cost even though it was out of warranty. It took two months, but the price was right. I guess there are no guarantees as to what they will do, but that was my experience.

SG4 Skycaddie has broken screen - is cost effective to repair?

Generally no. The way replacement parts are priced you
won't be too far behind what a new one is. Having said that I just checked prices and you are paying a premium price for it so it might be worth it. A replacement screen IF you can find it should cost about $100 plus labor and shipping. Here the trick, you may not have warrenty but check for it. And see if they offer repair/replacment services. Most GPS manufacturers will repair or replace the unit for a nominal fee right around $100. You either get a refurbished unit or a new one back. The nice thing is that they are not too picky sometimes on whats wrong. So if you ran it over with the truck and then dropped it in the microwave they usually don't care. Do that with a laptop and they scream user abuse and tell you not very nicely to go away and not bother them.

NOKIA N95 8GB NO DISPLAY BKEY PAD LIGHTS ON

The LCD display has most likely failed or the internal connection to it has been dislodged.

Without special tools and equipment there is nothing you can do to fix this properly, although a dislodged connector can sometimes be temporarily reseated by giving the phone a sharp sideways tap. Doing this can also completely dislodge the connector, but as the display no longer works you have nothing to lose.

If the sharp tap solution brings the display back then all you've done is to confirm that you probably won't need a new LCD display but either way the phone will still need a professional repair.

Sorry to disappoint you but sadly not everything is fixable on a DIY basis.

I have a Nokia N95 8gb and in anger threw it across the room. Its is now well and truly broken. I have experiance with repairs, so have tried to repair it myself. I fixed the slider problem but on power...

You can find replacement LCD screens for N95 in this link. There is also a video explaining the installation:

Note that N95 and N95-8GB have different LCD screens.

I hope it helps.

Garmin iQue M5, Not aquiring satellites

Two possibilities - Antenna (in power cable) or electronics related to antenna. First, do a hard reset. Place the pen top into the RESET hole for 3 seconds...
Next, when the unit is powered, page over to the screen showing satellite signal strength....

If NONE appear within 1 minute (and you are outside and NOT under trees), you have an antenna or antenna interface issue.

Garmin WILL repair the unit for 3 to 4 times its value... A 265WT GPS is cheaper, faster and more accurate. The IQUE is no longer worth repairing....

N95 slow GPS

hey! i've found out no need to hack hardware or use a-gps. open GPS data in connectivity folder , look at satellite status and hold the phone far from your body. I always get lock in less than 1 minute. then exit GPS data and open nokiamaps. Garmin also locks faster than nokia maps, so i suspect the problem is in nokia maps sotware. I put GPS data icon in active stanby applications for quick launch.
