Repair is a Non-Destructive Installation.

Perform a Full Installation if you do not plan on keeping personal information.

If you format the harddrive the wrong way, you will wipe off the Windows operating system.
You'll have a blank harddrive.

check your system bios if your installing a xp install you must set your advanced settings to ata... ahci will not install xp in fact thats the exact error you get when you try. windows 7 should be set at ahci and not on auto or compadable

Go to Microsoft.com and DL the patch for it.

can you please help me I have compaq 621 laptop and the sound works sometimes and then not.
I have downloaded the drivers 2 times and installed them and again sometimes it works and sometime not.
It is only 6 months old and it has done this from day one I know it cannot be much but it is driving me crazy have you comew across this before and if so can you help me get it working all the time.

So, contact Compaq, since your computer is less than one year old, and get them to trouble-shoot the problem, and/or repair/replace the computer, by exercising your warranty.

I think is a problem related to Windows XP SP3.

- Solution:
Re-install Windows XP SP3 (integrated).
Right after installation (no reboot) run the CVF installer. It will work.
Then do normall installation stuff.
If you have Windows XP SP2 you won't have any problem.

Don't upgrade unless you are planning on installing a new graphics board (VGA). The specs on this PC show that it has an Intel 865G graphics solution. There are no Vista drivers for this chip-set. It is possible that the XP drivers will work but I wouldn't count on it. Probably the same goes for the sound board. Not worth it. Besides that XP is better than Vista anyway. If you want to upgrade, wait for Windows 7 to be released, then take the money you would have spent on this PC and put it towards a new core2 duo or core2 quad. According to the beta testing, Windows 7 will be MUCH better than Vista. I think the release date supposed to be sometime around the middle of 2009? Don't quote me on that. Hope this helped.
