Question about Olympus Cameras

Olympus FE Model

Dear Sirs,

I own this product for about 1 year now. Olympus I know is one of the best brands that offer excellent quality of digital cameras, however it seems like most of the them that use re-chargeable batteries get drained very quickly, like in about a few shots. The reason i say this is because, i have 2 other friends (1 who has the same model as i have and the other the next version of mine) and they too complain of the same problem.

Having said that, i used this when i went for a trip recently and i guess i dropped it once (this was like the 2nd time since i bought the product) and since then I have not been able to use it. The first time, the battery insert flag broke and a chip fell off it, but now whenever i try taking a picture, the camera and the display looks PERFECT until the time I click the picture. After the picture is taken, it looks like a "Dark/Negative like" image - Like in negatives that need to be developed (Old cameras which used negatives). I understand that this is a software problem, so i want to know what is the best course of action?

1) Should i get it repaired? If yes, where would it be most economical in Chennai, India? Also the price range
2) Should i get this repaired and exchange this for another Lithium digital camera (as I am contemplating to get one, which uses Lithium-Coz I am a little dubious about using cameras with re-chargeable batteries)? If yes, which one should I buy with the best price range?

Apologies for asking too many questions. And I hope that i get the right advise from you experienced people on time.

I would appreciate if you can reply ASAP, as I would be traveling abroad next month and would need to make a decision about this.

Thanks & Regards,

P.S: I am at work; so do not know the exact model number, so mail me if you need me to give you specific model details

Here's the best solution you will ever get. Honestly.

  1. Find a suitable dealer
  2. The dealer should preferably be an Olympus dealer
  3. Go to the dealer and enquire about where you can get it repaired
  4. Go to the place which repairs cameras, and find a trash can
  5. Trash your camera there
  6. Find a new camera
  7. Be careful and do not drop cameras
  8. You are a winner!

My previous comment was for a laugh - The problem is that the image sensor is damaged - and it may not be worth getting it repaired if it is a basic compact camera, you should probably just get a new one. Cameras which can take AA batteries are sometimes more preferable because you can get them anywhere.

    Good luck.

To get it repaired, get it to olympus authorised service center... I think shetela cameras, chennai (Spencer plaza) r olympus authorised one. so check out.
It should be  very simple problem or it must make you spend much. I wont recommend you to repair if service cost goes beyond 3000INR.

For getting new cameras I could not advice without knowing ur budget. I wl prefer Canon cameras to any other. If your Budget goes above 10K get the canon iXus series is fine.

How do I change the shooting functions back to default settings?
You can reset the current settings to the camera's default settings by using the RESET function. RESET is available from the camera menu when the shooting mode is set to iAUTO, P, SCN (Scene), Digital Image Stabilization or Movie. One spot on lens

You could use a camera lens cleaner and a microfiber cloth. You could also get a product called the "lenspen". It's very handy and lasts for years.

Windows 7 driver for an olympus FE-210

Currently, you can't.

Olympus have not yet released a Windows 7 driver and given that it is an ultra low cost model I doubt that they'll be in any rush to do so.

All you can do is to try and find a Windows 7 compatible xD card reader, but given that xD is now an obsolete format that might also prove to be difficult.

The only remaining option will be to install your current driver onto Win7 and try to run it in compatibility mode.

Sorry there's no straightforward/guaranteed fix here, but these issues always arise with an upgrade to a brand new O.S. version and it often takes up to a year to find out which products will be supported on the new O.S. and which ones will be consigned to obselescence.

I came to known abt the reputation of olymbus firm &when i decided to purchase a small one fr personal use i opted olympus.but my experience with it is total is often complaint,in...

I'd like to make a correction to my earlier clarification request: you may genuinely have a problem, although Olympus are usually very good it seems that more than one reviewer has described the F-150 in the following terms:-

"If the FE-150 didn’t have the Olympus badge on it, I’d have thought it was from one of the less reputable of the no-brand Chinese importers. For a major name in the photographic industry it is a shockingly bad camera, with very poor image quality, dismal low light performance, virtually no features or options (one of which didn’t even work), the worst movie mode I’ve seen in a year and performance that can only be summarised as cr@p. There are much better cameras available for the same money, so buy one of them instead."

You may read the full review here.

I think the lesson here is to not rely solely on the reputation of any brand name, but to research the individual product prior to purchase.

Flash light symbol is flashing but the flash will not work.

The best solution is to send the product back to the manufacturer for repair or replacement. If you have a receipt for the product and its within the warranty period (1 year) they will do this free of charge. I can help you with the process.

Fe-310, only used a few times, kept protected, one

Short answer - yes.
Manufacturers have become very good at making products that are reliable for exactly 1 year.
Usually it's small components that have a deffinate shelf life.
I would first check that you are using the correct battery for it. Even if it looks like it takes standard AA's - they often will only work for original spec rechargable blocks.
If this does not solve it - write a letter to Olympus saying how dissapointed you are with their product.
They may offer you a good deal on a repair hopefully.
Unfortunately Sony and HP are even worse - HP and lexmark printers now stop working after a period of time - telling you to buy more ink - even though you still have plenty.

Poor Resolution

e sure the quality setting is the highest - 7 megapixels. Otherwise, why buy a 7MP if you shoot at 3MP. The Canon 750 seems to have excellent picture quality where the Olympus has soft focusing (reviews at C-net).

Which is a better camera?

Hey Cocobrown,
Both of these brands are highly regarded in the photographic community, and will probably meet or exceed your expectations. The features on these two camera's are comparable, but the Olympus can record slightly higher resolution and has a slightly more powerful zoom lens. I think both of these cameras should be a good buy. I would suggest going to a store and try them both out, and specifically pay attention to how easy it is to navigate the menu system of each camera and how easy it is to change the camera's settings.
