Question about PC Desktops

Trying to pull up email or particular website I keep getting "failure to connect to web server". My girlfriend has the same email carrier and her email will come up without any problems? What could be the problem?

What are you trying to install? Whatever it is seems to need access to the internet to complete installation. You probably have a download manager that obtains the software from the server then install it on your machine. This is fairly usual now but ensure that you know which program is trying to access the web.
In order to resolve this issue all you have to do is to make sure you are connected to the internet when trying to complete this particular software installation

How do i stop getting error nomber OX8OOCCCOE when trying to send email?HELP!!!!!!


First of all do all your emails go to the default folders? Also are these folders very full? You can corrupt folders by overfilling. It is best to create a new folder and move e-mails to these folders.

Probably not. The email could have failed or numerous reasons. I always CTRL+A and CTRL+C before I post or submit any form online because things don't always work as planned and you have no control over someone else's site.

You could have been clicking on a mailto link and didn't have a default email client set. This would give you a MAPI error.

It could be that Outlook Express was setup as your default mail client but it's not setup to use, so it couldn't open the default folders and your email failed for this reason.

If you use an application on your desktop, then set it to be the default email client. If not, and you only use web-based email, then copy/paste to your email client instead of clicking submit.

Websites should send server-based email and these issues would be eliminated. Also, using mailto, allows spammers to harvest email addresses on websites. Although it can be written to make it difficult, most people don't make the effort.

I am getting message when attempting to open links, "Server not found"?


Email links is when you are getting this message or is it when you try to open an internet browser to go to any web page?

If you're on the internet successfully and you are clicking a email link, then I would say the link is bad. You can type the address of the email provider and see if you can get there successfully. If you don't know the address just go to www.google.com and in the search box type your email provider. Example: Yahoo Mail or Google Mail,or GMail or Hotmail.

Error 0x800CCC0D
Problem: When you try to send or receive email, you get an error message. It
says the error number is 0x800ccc0D.

Solution: This error is basically saying that your computer cannot connect
to the mail server. The most common and obvious cause of this is that you
are not connected to the internet at all. To test whether this is the case,
try opening a news web page like news.com or doing a Google search (just
opening your homepage is not a good enough test, because it may be saved, or
"cached", on your computer's hard drive). If this test fails, then the
problem is not with e-mail specifically, but rather with the internet
connection. For users on dial-up, you need to dial in first, and then you
should be able to check your email. If Windows is indicating that you are
already connected, try disconnecting and then dial in again. If that fails,
try restarting the computer and then connecting again. If that fails, you
may have spyware or your modem may have gone bad.

If, on the other hand, you are able to pull up web pages, yet still get
error 0x800CCC0D, you should check to make sure the mail servers are typed
in correctly. To check this in Outlook Express, open the Tools menu, select
Accounts, click on the Mail tab, click on the Properties button, then click
on the Servers tab. Or, if you use a different email program, follow the
equivalent procedure for that program. The incoming mail server should be
pop3.vcn.com unless your email address doesn't end with @vcn.com, in which
case put in whatever your address ends with instead of vcn.com (for example,
if your address is person@wavecom.net, enter in pop3.wavecom.net ). The
outgoing mail server should be smtp.vcn.com or substitute whatever your
email address ends with for vcn.com.

Make sure to check the mail servers for all your mail accounts if you have
multiple email addresses.

If you still get error 0x800CCC0D, and definitely can pull up web pages
(that is, the rest of the internet is working fine, only email is having a
problem):

* Restart your computer. This is simple, so you might as well try.
* Try disabling e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. To do this
in Norton, double-click on the yellow picture for Norton down at the bottom
of your screen by your clock to open Norton. Then click the Options button
at the top of the window (if a drop-down menu appears, choose anti-virus),
then click the word Email on the menu on the left side. Uncheck both Scan
Incoming and Scan Outgoing. Click OK, then close Norton. Try checking your
messages again.
* Disable your firewall. It could be blocking Outlook Express, or
whatever your email program is, from accessing the internet. McAfee firewall
will usually not turn off even when you tell it to, so you'll have to go
into the firewall settings and delete your e-mail program from the blocked
list, or just uninstall McAfee firewall entirely using the Add/Remove
Programs control panel.
* Make sure you recieve replies when you ping the mail server. If you
cannot, something strange is going on.
* Try checking email using a different mail program such as Thunderbird,
or through webmail on our web site, and see if that works.



Other Cases

You may be able to get mail when you first open Outlook Express, but then
get error 0x800CCC0D from then on. To solve this, go to the Tools Menu >
Options > Connection tab, and uncheck "Hang up after sending and receiving".

Your email works fine, but error 0x800CCC0D keeps constantly popping up over
and over. In Microsoft Outlook, Tools > Options > Mail Setup tab > Send and
Receive, and uncheck "Schedule an automatic send/receive every 5 minutes"
(older versions of Outlook will have a similar option under the Mail
Delivery tab). In Outlook Express, go to Tools > Options, and uncheck "check
for messages every ... minutes".

What Email are you using??
If you are doing internet based web mail,(you have to log into a website to see it) you are loosing your connection intermittently. Other browsing of the web could run without caring about the crop. If you are using pc based email that uses the internet to send you still might have an intermittent connection. Your program definitely thinks it is talking to a server and the connection is dropping. If this is totally on your PC and you have only one drive you would have other problems if the drive were failing.

I am trying to have Outlook for my email. I can receive my email in Outlook but cannot "send". I'm not sure what I am doing wrong. Help. Laura


Outgoing Mail Server = smtp

Incoming Mail Server = pop

go into the settings and make sure that your incoming mail server says pop
for example
Incoming Mail Server = pop.ntlworld.com (after pop you type your ISP server address )

Depending on the software you're using and network configuration, there are several answers. The first thing I would try is checking the SSL settings VS the settings provided by your email provider.

I'm trying to set up my Eudora for my att yahoo and need the settings


1. Open your email client program.
2. Locate the email account settings for your particular client.
3. Change the POP server to pop.att.yahoo.com.
4. Change the SMTP server to smtp.att.yahoo.com.
5. Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the SMTP port to 465.
6. Check the option labeled Use an encrypted connection (SSL) and change the POP3 port to 995.
7. Confirm the above settings then click OK.

Can't receive my E-Mail


Depends on the (client) program you are using, but...


1) Test your WEB Browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox),
to make sure you can get MSN or Google.

This tell you if the network and the TCP/IP stack are
working properly.

2) If the network is fine, open you email client and check
your server setting for: POP-3, and SMTP.

These setting must match those specified by your
IP service provider.

Also make sure that the email login and server password
are correct.

3) Pay particular attention to the error messages you
get inside you email client, when it fails to access the
server. These should give you a clue:

a) Can't find server / invalid domain name ... etc...
b) Can't login ... user not authorized...
c) No network connection ... denied...

etc...

4) Server and domain name problems indicate a typo or
error in your POP3/ SMTP settings. These are sometimes
changed by the IP provider, so please check with them.
Also check the port numbers:

Port 110 = POP3 = Incoming mail server
Port 25 = SMTP = Outgoing mail server

are typical, but it really depends on th provider.

5) If you can't login, the login ID or password are wrong,
or your provider has closed you account, which they tend
do to with a nasty deliberation if you owe them money.

6) If the email program cannot connect to the internet at
all, but you WEB browser can, then you have a fire wall
problem.

Check these firewall, and disable them temporarily,
to see if it fixes the email problem:

The Windows Firewall: Control Panel === Windows Firewall
(disable it)

Any software firewall you may have installed, such as
Norton's, AVG antivirus...etc. Disable them too.

If you use an external router or residential gateway
to connect to the internet, such as SISCO, CVG, SMC

Log into the router using your WEB browser, and disable the
firewall.

7) Once you identify a firewall problem, you need to setup
exceptions for your email client.

8) If you cannot get any Internet, including the WEB,
then you have a different problem.

a) run the Windows Network setup wizard again,
from the control panel.

b) If you connect directly to the Internet through your cable
or DSL this should fix it.

c) If you still use a telephone modem, that has to be
setup as well.

d) If you use a residential gateway, barricade or router
to connect to DSL or CABLE, then you need to set
that up next using you WEB browser. Typical router
address is: 192.168.1.1

e) In the case of DSL you router may also need to be
programmed with you login/password info, because in
this case it is the router that connects and logs into
your internet provider's server, not your computer.
(your computer sees the router, not the provider.)

Anyway, not knowing what your exact problem is,
I think that I have covered the waterfront here,
