USB Thumb drive

I've tried 2 different USB thumb drive in the front of the player and neither one worked. This is the main reason I bought this particular unit! Am I missing something?

I'm trying to play mp3 files. They do not have any DRM on them. Am I using an incompatible USB drive? They have U3 Smart technology on them.

Recently purchased and installed CD1200. Will identify and load files from a 1GB PNY 'Attache' model thumbdrive but will not work with a 4GB Cruzer Micro thumbdrive. If you are familiar with the Cruzer you know that it has an orange LED built-in that flashes quickly and sharply when accessing data but flashes slower, fading on and off, when idle. It behaves as follows when inserted into the front USB slot: LED turns on sharply, then flashes with fade effect about 3 times then shuts off. This cycle repeats continously... forever it seems. The CD1200 does not respond at all when the Cruzer is inserted. That is to say that if I am listening to the radio and I insert the Cruzer, the source does not change and I cannot select USB as the source manually. I purchased several of these drives and am quite disappointed that they do not work. Please help.

Ok I figured it out. Sandisk has a tool to remove the U3 capability from the thumbdrive therefore making it a normal mass storage device.

U3 is most likely the problem... pick up a usb drive that is blank (kingston is good) and try again after loading the music you want.

I bought my 2G thumb drive yesterday and this morning my computer is not detecting it but other thumb drives I have.

Hi,

Since you just purchase you Thumb Drive Yesterday and you said that other usb devices have been detected you can ask the store where you purchase it to check and if it is not working they might replace it with a new one provided that it has a warranty on it.

Thanks for using Fixya.

I have a Dane-Elec 4gb thumb drive. First one i bought worked for a while then kept saying error. so i returnd it .. got a new one, and now it wont open anything at all or even register that its in there. ...

Try connecting it to a different computer.
If it still does not work, take it back, and get the store to verify that it works,
by plugging it into one of their "demonstration" computers,
or get them to replace it.

Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. I'd also try the thumb drive in a different computer just to make sure the problem isn't with the thumb drive itself. The drive could also be unformatted, or formatted with a filesystem for a different platform that can't be read by XP.

PLEOMAX 5GB Thumbdrive

Do you see a message on your system tray when it is plugged in? If you don't see any message, it means that the drive is not being detected. You can't retrieve any data or files on the thumb drive if it is not detected. Things you can try to isolate the problem:

1. Try a different USB port on your computer. Check if your thumb drive will be detected.

2. Try a different USB device like mouse on your USB port. If it is detected, it means that the problem is the thumb drive. If not, it means that the USB port is not working or is disabled.

3. Try the thumb drive on a different computer.

Hope this helps. ;-)

USB Ports don't recognize typical thumb drive, mass storage devices

I'm not completely sure, but this may be a result of faulty drivers.
Try googling the brand name and the word: "Driver"; along with any other details about the device. (Model No. et cetera.)

The real issue here is Digital Rights Management (DRM).
Most purchased MP3/WMA/AAC songs are protected by a DRM license.
The only players that can play it are those 1) capable of handling the type of DRM and 2) registered with the correct DRM license.
That's why I only buy music through Amazon.com, because the music is not DRM protected, and you can just copy it to your USB thumb drive or any player you own. I do this all the time with a Pioneer car receiver that has USB capability. Works fine.

I would recommend trying a clean thumb drive with no software, only mp3/wma files. Having software and other files that are not audio may cause problems.
