Router "wireless G" will not

Router "wireless G" will not stay connected. Looses connection after 7 seconds. If I connect directly to computer and don't use router, no problem. I have unplugged and disconnected everything and reconnected to instructions and still no improvement. I have re-run the install Cd and no luck there either. Direct from DSL to computer works great, thru router, constant disconnect after 7 seconds. Purchased router 12-13-07 Have paperwork and box. Fixable? Warranteed? Hash and needs replace?

Find the model number of the router and check belkin's website to see if they have any software updates or patches that may fix your problem. What version of Windows are you using?

I had the same problem with a router of mine. I had it replaced and the new one works great.

Win7 will connect without any problems, but win vista will not get connected to the network...
You can update the drivers for wireless adapter in vista laptop, it will get connected...
If it still not getting connected then change the security settings on your router to 64bit WEP... (Initially it will be in WPA)
disabled the WPS (wifi protected setup) in the router...
change the ssid in the router...
Now try to connect to the new wireless network...It will work perfectly....

The first thing that I would try is power-cycling the router to see if that helps at all. This involves unplugging the power cord for about 10 seconds or more and then plugging-in the power cord again.
If this doesn't resolve the problem, then there may be a firmware update for that router. Apparently there are four different revisions of this router on the market, so you will have to determine which revision you have by clicking on the "Support Resources" tab of the router information page.
The directions for figuring out which rev you have are available in the link to the FAQ on that same tab.
Be VERY careful when upgrading the firmware. Most importantly, do not upgrade the firmware over the wireless connection -- hook your computer to the router using an Ethernet cable!

Hi. First issue why your laptop cant connect to your router is regarding witht the password. Make sure that you are typing in the correct password of your router. Check the type of authentication used e.g WPA, WEP etc. Second issue, is this the first time you used windows 7 OS in connecting to your router. There are issues in linkys routers that is not compatible with windows 7 and you need firmware upgrade for your router. You can also try to test the connectivity using a wired conncetion (LAN cable) conncet directly to your router nd se if you were able to get an internet concetion using a wired connection.

Have a good one!

I changed the username and password on my Netgear router so make it more secure. Now, I can't get an internet connection when i have my ethernet cable plugged in to my router, only when I have it directly...

  1. Set up and plug in the Netgear router and wait a few seconds for it to boot up. Since the router is essentially a mini-computer, it won't work instantly when it's turned on. While it's booting, the power light should flash. When it's finished booting, the power light should stay solid.
  2. Step 5 Connect a computer to the router, either with a wireless or a wired connection. Reboot the computer to ensure it gets a new IP address from the router via Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP).
  3. Step 6 Open the web interface by entering "http://192.168.1.1/" into the address bar of your web browser. If a login screen is presented, use "admin" as the username and either "1234" or "password" as the password.
  4. Step 7 Connect to the Internet, if necessary. Plug your cable modem or DSL modem into the router's WAN port in the back and run the Internet Connection Setup Wizard from the web interface.
  5. Step 8 Follow the directions and provide authentication information.
  6. Step 9 Connect more clients. At this point, clients should be able to connect and access the Internet.

I have a Buffalo g54 Wireless router, it keeps loosing wireless connection. Works fine when directly next to the router but when you move away it looses connection.

Buffalo wireless routers are **** and never work right, i suggest you go out and buy either Netgear or Lynksis routers as these are the best, unfortunealeley there is no fix for this a the range of the routers are limited, stick to brand name equipment
