Re: task bar
Uninstall Firefox. If the icon returns then lock the taskbar and reinstall Firefox. You might also consider Google Chrome I switched to that and found it even faster and more intuitive for searches. Alternatively you can right click on the Start button, go to Properties, Taskbar and peruse your options for taskbar options. Actually you should do that first since it is a Windows issue and not a browser issue.

Your laptop is designed to use 32-bit due to its compactness, so you need to get a 32-bit version of Windows 7. Since your laptop is not designed to handle power-intensive applications such as AutoCAD, ArcGIS, or video editing, I would not recommend upgrading to the 64-bit version. You may also want to visit Microsoft's Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor site for helpful tips:

To break in a battery for Acer, you have to charge it up, then let it run down completely 3 times! The battery only has a 300 recharge life, so you must never leave it in your Acer when you are plugged in. Use it only when you need a battery, then take it out. Be sure to use it set for battery use, with minimum drain. only recharge it after it is exhausted. It sounds to me as if you bought a bum battery.. Call them, and ask for a replacement.
