Macbook just won't start

Worked fine this afternoon. Went to put it on this evening...absolutely nothing. I think this MAC is a lemon. I had this problem about six months ago and the whole hard drive had to be replaced. Help

i had the same problem with my macbook(white).the tech's at the genius bar told me it was a problem with the motherboard and since they had no stock of it,replaced it for me with the latest aluminium macbook..free of cost as my machine was still under warranty

So you had to replace the hard drive before! Bummer!

I'd be surprised if it is the same problem. If it is the hard drive you would be able to boot from the DVD OS installer.

No start up chime, apple logo, revolving gear on screen or anything?

I assume you have checked all the normal stuff. Power connection etc. Is there a light on the connector to the mac?

If there is power going into the mac you could try and boot from your OS installation disk.

If you have the mac os install cd, try physically taking out the hard drive from your battery bay (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8c6ckjy-gdY) close up the bay and turn on your mac without the hard drive in place, while the chime is heard press and hold the alt/option key to get a list of bootable devices, ie. the install cd. Select the cd when the cd loads, go to the menu at the top and select startup disk, follow instructins to get your computer to atomatically start from the cd on next restart.

Select the restart option by cancelling th install.
AFTER THE COMPUTER SHUTS OFF IT WILL RESTART, DO NOT LET IT RESTART, TURN IT BACK OFF IMMEDIATELY.

Now take out the battery-bay again and put the hard drive back in. Put everything back together and turn the computer on again. This time it should automatically load the install cd if it is stil in the drive. When it loads the installation you should be able to find a way to either use disk repair to put a startup image back on the hard drive or completely reinstall the OS on the hard drive (which it will recognize now)..

If yu have any other questions let me know i can give you a more detailed explanation if necessary

My Macbook Pro is not allowing me to open applications or folders. Not even the Finder is accessible. Nothing is accessible.

It could be a corrupted finder preference file try going to your home directory then library and then preferences and go to the files com.apple.desktop.plist and com.apple.finder.plist and move them to the trash, then reboot your machine and they will be recreated but note that the desktop and finder preferences will be reset to default. Hope this helps.

I went to start by trailblazer, the key turned and all the interior and exterior lights worked fine, but the engine itself did absolutely nothing. not a click, or a crank. what could the problem be?

Could me one of many things , but because you said the engine didn't even make a click , I am going to suggest that you make sure the gear shifter is fully in park ( if automatic trans ) , it won't start if not in park. If manual trans , it won't start if it thinks the clutch is not depressed. Could also be an anti-theft device has kicked in. Good Luck

Insert your Mac install disk 1 into your macbook, and restart the mac. While powering on, hold down the "C" key to boot from CD. This will take you to the Mac OS X Reinstallation window. If you are able to enter this mode, then it's just a corrupted install, and you'll need to reinstall. If you cannot enter this mode, then there may be some hardware errors on your macbook.
Comment back on if that worked. If not, we'll try some other things.

Macbook won't accept CD's/DVD's in Disk Drive

do you usually lean or put any pressure on the area above the slot-load optical drive? If you have anything flat and plastic around 1/4" (about 1/2 the width as a USB plug) stick it in the optical drive until you just feel it going past the door, and rotate 90 degrees so it opens it a little.
