You need a USB cable that usually comes with the camera, and once you plug it in, your computer should find the software to upload the pictures on to the harddrive. Similar to how you would use a firewire to transfer videos. You can buy a USB cable if it didn't come with your camera

You can use USB cable to connect to PC then use drivers from your camera to transfer pictures. Easier is to remove memory card and use a card reader to transfer the pictures.

There are few things need to do in camcorder and PC for correct communication for video data transfer..

Install Picture Package software CD in PC supplied with camcorder.

Enable USB Streaming by going in to camcorder Menu.

Camcorder and PC must be connected through iLink / DV / IEEE1394 cable for video files transfer.

Let me know if you feel any difficulty.

Hod you go from a cassette to DVD??

Sony DCR-TRV510 is digital handycam and records video signal in digital format on tape.
Digital Video signal requires a software Picture Package installed in PC to transfer files. You can check camera box to find software cd for the same.
You also need to hook camera trough iLink port to  iLink / DV port in PC. You can find details in user manual of handycam and still need help, let me know.

GSV 15 issue, PC is not able to recognize the DV port, unable to transfer video to PC

I had this happen to one of my Panasonic cameras, fortunately i had another camera i used for the capture process.

BUT get a magnifying glass and look at the camera firewire socket. Most firewire connect problems comes from a
"bent pin" in that socket. Otherwise it is off to the repair guy I am afraid.

I am assuming you meant your video (not just pictures) - you need a firewire cable - I have same camera - I use a firewire cable (4pins on each end) and connect to my IBM Laptop with Vista - vista does everything else to capture.

If you need to transfer photographs from the flash memory card -- I suggest the best way is to remove the flash memory card and use a USB flash card reader that you can hook up to your computer.

You may be able to do these otherways by installing the Sony software that comes with this camera - or can be downloaded from Sony website.
