I don't think the LCD screen (speckling) is part of a reset problem.  I think it is a product of aging our use.  Is this a situation of replacement of the LCD screen? I use the term speckling to indicate a modeling effect seen in the screen. It has lost it's clear brilliance it once had.  The camera is about 2.5 years old.  Generally, it takes good pictures.
I have noticed at times the telephoto pictures show grain. I have reset the camera and will try more pictures with various settings.

Try restoring your camera to the default settings, in most cameras theres a option for this in the menu, or there may be a reset button to press to get it to reset everything back to factory defaults.

lets see how the things are after this

If the problem only shows up on the screen then it would be the screen. I got you a replacement lcd assembly, see here

Grainy LCD display

Are you in night mode? Sounds like you are in a high gain setting, like ISO 3200 or night mode.

Describe your Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-S500

The fault may be with the apature in the lens, or the CCD sensor sensitivity. Go through all the menus first just in case something was changed.

Maybe the camera is in the manual mode, and the apature is turned all the way down???

If all else fails, the camera may be exensive to service.

Blank LCD screen on shooting mode, but does show settings. Will not take pictures. Replaying mode works, shows pictures taken before screen went blank. New batteries. What is going on??? Is it...

The Display button manually turns the LCD display on or off to save batteries. If you accidentally had turned the LCD off, It should only take one press of the button to turn it back on and leave it that way. As such, it's not you but the camera. The A570 IS is relatively new. Your camera is likely still under warranty. If so, contact Canon for warranty repair (see the following link):

Fuzzy, Grainy Pictures

This camera is a perfect one to show the problem with the tiny sensors in the typical point and shoot. From the same sensor size that previously gave 2 or 3 megapixels, Canon now extracts 7.something. In order to do that, they have to turn the gain up so that each pixel actually puts out a signal to be recorded. The natural outcome of that is noise. In this camera, Canon includes heavy noise reduction software that softens the image in order to reduce noise at the various ISO settings above the minimum one, but the result is still a mix of noisy and soft or fuzzy images.

However, the noise should be well controlled at the low end of the ISO settings.

I suspect you have somehow gotten the ISO setting set up higher than the lowest one. Use the four-way controller to access the ISO and set it to the lowest (80) value. This should give you noise free shots.

As an additional suggestion, read the concise review of this camera at Dpreview, the link for which I've provided.

If you have any questions, please let me know before giving this answer a rating and I will provide it. Thanks.
