Question about Sony VAIO Z1RA Notebook

Power up issue

Last week my laptop powered up fine, did some systems programming with it in the field, everything was fine. This morning I tried to power it up and nothing happened, power button did not light up green and the orange light for the battery indicator did not light up, completely dead with the a.c. power plugged in and the battery installed, any troubleshooting tips that might help would be really appreciated.

It's possible the lid switch is stuck.
Make sure its free.
Try another power cord/adapter.
Try without the battery installed.
If none of this works the Motherboard may be at fault.

Hi, i'm having sony vaio (VGN NW380F) laptop. I bought this laptop just 1 year back. I'm having problem since last week, the laptop gets power off automatically. Its not specific to Operating system or any...

It could be a problem with the motherboard, basically because the power supply to the laptop is built in to the motherboard. I would first check the battery though. Sometimes this can happen with a bad battery, even if the laptop is plugged in. Try removing the battery and using the laptop while it's plugged in with no battery.

If it works fine with no battery and power cord connected, I would get a new battery.

If it is still a problem with the battery out, it's likely it could be a problem with the power supply that's part of the motherboard. If that's the case, I would try to call Sony and see if it is covered under warranty....or if they have had problems with this. With a year old laptop, this should not be failing like this.

Toshiba satellite L300 black screen. Tried the 0 key and it only goes 1/3. thinking booing/registry corrupt. No recovery disk or software came with my laptop. O/S is Vista I have data and photos that...

Yes everything will be wiped out, once you do the recovery. It will reinstall the factory settings.
You may try this first; Turn OFF the laptop, remove the power sources (ac adapter and battery). Without power sources, hold power button 10 secs. Put back the power sources, then try to boot from safemode. Tap F8 upon booting up to enter the advance boot option. Select safe mode, save your files once loaded in safe mode. You may first try the system restore from , go to start/all programs/accessories/system tools/system restore, select the previous date the laptop was working fine. If this will not work then the last resolution is the recovery.

Hope this helps.

My laptop is not turning on. I recently purchased a new battery and ac plug. Everything worked perfectly for about two weeks. It worked fine in the morning but when I tried to turn it on for lunch...

1. Check ur Power Adapter, whether ur laptop get power or not.
2. if power cable and adapter ok. check system RAM
but u said it does not recognize power, So u have problem with either Power card or power plug inside laptop. and u said it deosn not recognize battery also, in this case check RAM, CPU and MB.

Total battery power remaining: Unknown

Well you can try a system restore.

1.) start
2.) programs / accessories / system tools
3.) system restore

follow the on screen instructions too restore the computer to a few days before it started having problems.

Chances are that the battery is shot if system restore fails.

Problems with charging

This still could be either if the cord is being moved at the same time. when the laptop is able to turn on, Does everything (programs, software, etc) function properly? If yes, then we can narrow it to the battery or ac adapter.
To find out whether it is the ac adapter or battery, take out the battery, and see if the laptop powers up and stay that way. If it intermittently closes or shuts down, it's most likely the ac adapter.
If it stays powered on, even if you move it, then it's most likely a battery issue.
If you want to be sure before spending some money, go to a friend's, neighbor's or computer store with a with the same manufacturer (dell, toshiba, etc), and borrow their ac adapter to check

I completely disassemble my laptop down to only the motherboard. I put everything back together and for the past few week all seems fine.
