I have a Brother MFC-5840CN printer. It will not print. I have replaced the print cartridges and cleaned the print head. When you send a document to it it makes all of the right printing noises but only blank pages come out. The test print page from the maintenance menu is also blank

makes all the right printing noises, you can hear the print head move, paper is fed correctly and moves in/out but what comes out is a blank page all the time. No sign of any ink/gaps on the page or slight splodges. WTH?

Tech support at Brother could not help me over the phone or via the net so I figured I would get the same info from you guys and have to pay for it and still have a printer that doesn't work so I will take it to the shop and pay them only if they fix it

My brother 5840CN. lit says unable to print. the manual says to take the jam out - there was no jam. Turn it off, then on. i did that. It still says unable to print, look at troubleshooting page

errr.....No, no it does not. The Manual says that "unable to clean" means one of two things.....
1. The MFC has a mechanical problem.-OR-2. A foreign obstacle, such as a clip or ripped paper, is in the MFC.
but regardless, I don't believe it *IS* a 'cleaning' problem per se.Try resetting the power purge counter.

Press menu > Mono Start > 4x Arrow up after another. All lights will flash.
1. Power clean - Press 7>6>4 >Mono? Start.
2. Power Purge: 7>6 >3 >Mono Start.
Press 9>9 to exit maintenance mode. Run a print quality test print.

The black will not print. I have replaced the cartridge with two new ones. Color prints ok. Brother mfc 5840cn

please perform head cleaning to see if there is any ink out.. goto ink management and select head cleaning... after that goto ink management and print the nozzle check.. see if there is any black ink out...if no ink out..then more probably your print head is badly clogged..and you will need to get it replaced.

Printer accepts document to be printed but page comes out blank

The print head is clogged.Try unclogging with cleaning process in maintenance mode.If not help better think about new printer because the cost of new print head is profitable.

Brother mfc 5840 won't print clearly

you need to check the maintainence kit and see if it's full. Also if it isn't, use some iso-proponal alcohol and some q-tips to clean the print section of the cartridge and the cartridge tray.

Ink Cartridges are full but keeps telling me they are not to then

as a printer mechanic .i had got many customers coming at my work shop with this problem .and it gets soved by replacing the cartridge with new cartridge.as you said cartridges are full still it says change cartridges.but if the circuit of the cartridge is got faulty it will not print let it be full.so clean the brown colour metal circuit on the cartridge with a dry tissue.if its due to dust got stuck up on the circuit it will print otherwise the cartridge has to be changed in this case.

Out of memory

you need to clean out the units memory

Print data remains in the MFC’s memory

Re-start printing from your computer.

Print data remains in the MFC’s memory. The USB cable was unplugged while he computer was sending the data to the MFC.

Press Stop/Exit. The MFC will cancel the job and eject the page that is being printed.

Brother MFC 210C series ink replaced

The brother machines require ink in all the cartridges as it is always flushing ink through the heads to "clean" it. This means you must have ink in all cartridges at all times unfortunately or the brother will not work. Even if you could somehow get it to work it could damage your printhead anyway.

Good Luck
