Check and see if you can copy and paste that file from it's location and place it on the desktop. Basically seeing if you can move that file within your PC. If this is a work computer, it might have precautions built-in to write protect it's documents. If you can move the file around in your computer then it's probably a problem with your flash drive. Can you copy anything to the drive?, such as a simple text file, music, etc. I'm also assuming that you checked the properties on the drive itself to make sure it wasn't locked. You could also try another flash drive to eliminate the possiblilty of your stick being defective.
Let me know how you do.

How to Break MS Word Password Protected Document?

<p>If you have read the novel "<span>The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo</span>", you must remember that there was a character said free programs were available on the web to <a href="http://recoverlostpassword.com/products/wordpasswordrecovery.html"><b>break MS Word password</b></a> protected document. If you did a search then you will find that there are thousands of free download of word password breakers. All of them said MS Word document that are password protected can be opened easily with a few minutes. Is it true? This article will tell you.<br /> <p> <br /> <p>For what it's worth, it is my understanding. Microsoft Word offers three levels of password protection. These protection methods can all be used together or separately:<br /> <p> <br /> <ul> <li><b>Password to open:</b> Requires a user to enter a password to open and view the document. If the Word document was set a password to open, the entire MS Word file is encrypted with the RC4 stream cipher.</li> <li><b>Password to modify: </b>Requires a user to enter a password to read and make changes to the document. When the Word file was set a password to modify, the password can be viewed or changed with a hex editor.</li> <li><b>Read-only recommended: </b>Prompts the user to open the document as read-only if they do not need to make any changes to the content.</li></ul> <p> <br /> <p>In some case, your document was protected from editing and do not really encrypt the underlying document, so a malevolent human could open the underlying XML of the docx file and edit it directly. Other forms of password protection actually encrypt the file. If you do this kind of password protection then the file should not be opened without a password. Malicious users could still try to open the file with a variety of techniques, but it would be very difficult. Some of these techniques include:<br /> <p> <br /> <ul> <li><b>Brute force and dictionary attacking:</b> this attack basically involves the Word password breaker tool trying every possibility of every password to see if they successfully <b>break word password</b>. So the way for you to combat this attack is to set a strong password. </li> <li><b>Rainbow tables:</b> Word password breaker didn't need to know how Microsoft Word saves its encrypted file. If it were possible to get hold of the hashed password and the encryption algorithm used, a rainbow table might let you <b>break the word password</b>. </li></ul> <p> <br /> <p><b>MS Word Password Breaker</b><br /> <p><br /> SmartKey <a href="http://recoverlostpassword.com/products/wordpasswordrecovery.html">Word Password Recovery</a> is easy-to-use software designed to unlock, crack, <b>break word password</b> protected document in less than 2 minutes and all by yourself. My PC could not save file in my flash drive where as folder can.

Maybe the root of the USB drive is protected. If you got any switch for write protection in the USB drive, unlock it and try saving.

Thank you!

How to Protect Your USB from Receiving Virus

If you want to protect your USB from receiving unwanted files i.e. virus, worm, spy, trojan etc than you are at the right place.
What I'm gonna tell you is that how to setup your registry to stop a computer from saving files to your USB (It'll block all of them)

If you have windows XP with SP2, then you can disable the writing option to USB drives. This trick is very useful if you have virus in your computer and want to copy files from a USB Drive but don’t want to transfer virus to the USB. Follow the given steps to disable the USB writing option:

To edit the computer registry, first you should log onto your computer with administrative rights.

First click on Start button and type “Regedit” in Run option.

Here locate the location to:
dscf1755%202.jpg
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl

Here in right side panel, click right to create a key with the name “StorageDevicePolicies”.

Now in left side panel, select “StorageDevicePolicies” key, again right click to create new DWORD value then label it “WriteProtect”. Set its value to “1?. But again to enable writing, set its values to “0?.

Now close the registry editor
Note: If it won't work then restart your pc

Alternative way:
TO TURN ON THE PROTECTION
open notepad and copy and paste the following:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies]
"WriteProtect"=dword:00000001

Now save the file with the extension ".reg".
Double click on the file you just saved. In the pop-up window click YES and then OK.
That's it your USB is now protected

To TURN PROTECTION OFF:
open notepad and copy and paste the following:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlStorageDevicePolicies]
"WriteProtect"=dword:00000000
Now save the file with the extension ".reg".
Double click on the file you just saved. In the pop-up window click YES and then OK.
That's it your protection is now disabled.

Removing Write Protection

Trouble:
In the past we had received so many problems from the readers who have a problem in copying files on their USB portable devices like pen drives, memory card and iPod etc.
usbdrivewriteprotected_thumb.gif
According to the mails we had received about this problem, people have seen the following errors when their thumbs drives, memory card etc becomes write protected.
  • Cannot copy files and folders, drive is write protected
  • Cannot format the drive, drive is write protected
  • The disk is write protected
  • Remove write protection or use another disk
  • Media is write protected
Some times people say that suddenly their drive become write protected and they are not able to delete any files and folder on the drive and also not able to copy new files and folder to USB portable drive.
Let’s see how can you remove write protection on your portable devices like pen drives, memory cards, iPod and other USB mass storage devices.
Fix:
Write Protection on any portable USB Device can be applied by the physical lock provided on the card adjuster or some times provided on the pen drives, so make sure to make your drive not write protected by moving the lock in right direction.
But even after moving the physical lock for write protection the problem can happen due to some virus action. This happens when some virus or script which applies the registry hack to make any drive write protect when connected to the computer, In that case follow the procedure below to remove write protection from your pen drive.
1. Open Start Menu >> Run, type regedit and press Enter, this will open the registry editor.
2. Navigate to the following path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\StorageDevicePolicies

Note: If the registry key StorageDevicePolicies key does not exist, you will need to create it
Download this batch file called add.bat from here, and double click after download the key will be automatically added to registry.
writeprotectionregistry_thumb.jpg
3. Double click the key WriteProtect in the right pane and set the value to 0 in the Value Data Box and press OK button disablewriteprotection_thumb.png

google_protectAndRun("ads_core.google_render_ad", google_handleError, google_render_ad);

4. Exit Registry, restart your computer and then again re-connect your USB pen drive on your computer. That is it, done.
In case you still find an issue, please leave a comment below.

After a lot of user comments telling that the above method does not work for them, we tell you another method which you can follow to solve the “Pen Drive is Write Protected” problem.
If the above method does not work for you, follow the below steps:
1. Copy all the important data from this drive to your computer because this method will format the drive and erase all the data on the pen drive.
2. Now download the Apacer Formatting Utility, Unzip this utility to a folder on your hard disk, preferably on a folder on desktop screen for easy access (Do Not Try To Save it on pen drive). Keep your pen drive plugged in, and double click on the Start.bat file in the folder where you unzipped the above utility. This will start formatting your pen drive, wait till the formatting completes and the LED on your pen drive stops blinking. Remove your pen drive after than and plug it in again.
The above two steps will solve the problem. If you still face the problem, follow the below steps:
1. Goto Start > Run, type cmd and press enter, this will open command prompt.
2. Type the following command on the command prompt replacing X with the drive letter of your pen drive.
CHKDSK X: /F
The above two methods will help you fix the problem.
Note: For all those who are out of luck in fixing the problem with their portable drives, I would suggest you to get your drives checked or replaced by the manufacturer to fix it for you

I am trying to save to my NEW PNY usb flashdrive and it keeps telling me it's write protected. There is NO switch or anything to unprotect this thing. Can you tell me what I am doing wrong?

Depending on what you are trying to save, the file or files might be write protected. If it is just music, it should transfer fine. Assuming your using a PC, if you right click on the file your trying to transfer and click properties, it will have options such as "read only" or "hidden", make sure none of those are checked. You can also do the same for your new flashdrive if you view that drive in "My Computer" from the start tab.
Good luck, hopefully that's the problem.
