Bottom freezer (10 yrs. old) losing temperature. Only +10 degrees. Refrigerator is +30 degrees. Is it worth fixing the freezer? Does this mean that it is only a matter of time that the top refrigerator goes out, too?

I have a KitchenAid Refrigerator Model Number: KBFC42FTS. Bottom drawer freezer over cools -10 degrees.

Does that unit have a low temperature monitor built in? Maybe that is what is making the noise when your temps dip to -10 degrees. Actually, that is great because the lower the temps the longer you can keep food in the freezer so I would not be overly concerned about that aspect. BTW, have you tried to isolate the source of the humming noise?

I have a KitchenAid Refrigerator Model Number: KBFC42FTS. Bottom drawer freezer over cools -10 degrees.

That's interesting, -10 or colder is too cold and something is defiantly going on. This unit is controlled by a mulitple control boards, temperture sensors and other components. Question, what is freezer temp set at? Try increasing it by 3-4 degrees and see if that changes anything. Beyond that, I'm going to change the temp sensor first before doing any of the control boards. #29 is the temp. sensor. Good Luck

What is the mormal temperature swing of a Refrigerator?

What you call temperature swing, is hysteresis. For a refrigerator it only is allowed a few degrees. 1 or 2 up and down. A swing from 32 to 45 is far to big. Unless the factory can prove they advertise these figures. I would never buy a frig like that.
I would contact the dealer and ask him / her to replace the thermostat and if that is not possible to bring another refrigerator.

Something is really wrong with yours.

Refrigerator not cooling but the freezer ok

Sounds like the thermostat or control mechanism is broken in the fridge compartment. You willneed to call a service engineer to fix it or risk getting ill.

Freezer temperature is not consistent

No recall that I have on my listing for that model. Keep in mind that the refrigerator goes into a defrost mode that lasts up to 30 minutes. It happens anywhere from 10 hours to 60 hours of operational time. When this happens, it's not uncommon to see 20 ° temperature. If you check it again an hour later, it should be back under 10 °. Also, double check to be sure the condenser coils are really clean. That alone can also cause this sort of symptom.
