Picture comes and goes.

Ok so This is the plasma that likes to go pop and go black after the warranty expires, so after a lot of research I decided to change the YSUS and ZSUS boards witch now I do have a picture again, problem is the screen now comes on then fades off back and forth and when it is on for it's quick little time the picture is also faint. :-/ should I first double check my connections / cables? Thanks

The magnetic tipped screw driver wont hamper anything

  • Sameer Kashyap Sep 06, 2008

By Magnetic field i mean there should not be any gadget near the plasma which contains a heavy Magnet. It may continuously create a magnetic field which will surely let the picture to fade off.

Have 52"sanyo plasma .

Hi Michelle.
What you are describing is called " capacitor flu".

The capacitors in your tv produce a charge that energizes the screen, and they are failing on you.

The popping noise is the capacitors trying to send electric pulses to the screen, but because one or more of them are defective, the screen doesn't come on, just sound.
And then when the protection circuit kicks in, it shuts the set back off to prevent further damage.

If your tv is under warranty, then by all means send it in for warranty work.
If, like most, the warranty is expired, then you might find that it is cheaper to get a new tv instead of fixing the old one.

This is because in order to make sure that the problem is completely resolved, the repair center will have to remove and replace every capacitor in the set.
This is a time consuming effort, and can be quite expensive to do.

I wish I had better news for you, but sadly this is not the case.

If you do decide to repair it, Fry's, Staple's, and Best Buy are the safest place to get the repairs done at.

They all have trained service techs for this type of repair.

Good luck to you, ma'am, and have a good day.

My screen keeps "looping". starts, goes to black

You can try to get the processor to do a cold start. To do this, unplug the power from the set - turning it off is not enough, you must unplug it!

After 15 minutes, plug the set back in and try to power up. If it works OK, you are good2go!

If that did not work, your set probably has a power supply problem. The best option if it is under warranty is to exchange it.

If your warranty has expired, find a good TV repair shop and ask for an estimate before going any further.

Good Luck!

call 877-543-8325 this is an LG Executive call center and they will fix this for free. I have a 50" plasma I bought january 2006 which is out of warranty by 5 months. They faxed me and the LG repair shop a 30 day warranty for my tv to cover the repair. Just tell them you heard a pop and in my case the picture is distorted. All they need is the model number and serial number and they should take care of it. No arguing needed.

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

Our LG 50" plasma tv screen went black after a popping noise but still had sound, after great diliberations decided to take the back off and have a peek!
We unplugged the tv and tested the fuses (there were three we could see) one had blown, the one on the left as you look at the back of the tv it also has one above it. We wrote the code/seriel number down and took the fuse to the electrical wholesalers Maplin and bought a pack of 10 fuses for £1.29 replaced the fuse in the tv and everything now fine!!!!!!
Hope this might be of use to anyone whose lost the picture after a loud popping/snacking noise but still has sound.

I have just had the same problem. It affects both the component inputs but the A/V inputs are OK. If I disconnect the green input, the screen goes black and displays "No signal." Service guy came out and said the Y-board needed replacing. Haven't done this yet

I'm guessing this is a problem on the Y-SUS PCB or the Control PCB. Call LG and they will find you a servicer. Most LG Plasmas have 2 year warranties and they are covered in your home. It kinda sucks but it is better now than after your warranty expires this repair would cost several hundred dollars.
