Question about Maytag Bravos 4.5 Cu. Ft. Washer

My Bravos just stopped working in the middle of a cycle and now shows an F in the window. What's wrong with it?

My Maytag Bravos stopped in the middle of a cycle and is now showing an F in the window. It won't spin at all and won't continue the cycle. What is the problem and how do I fix this. I have soaking wet clothes in there. Please help!

    I had unplugged it earlier in the evening and it didn't work, but after your suggestion I left it unplugged for about 15 minutes, and it seems to have worked. It finally went through the whole cycle. I'm going to try another load today and hope it works. Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'll let you know if it does it again.

    Okay, the washer finished the cycle last night, but so far today, it is having the same problem. I have unpluged it, and it's still not working. I am going to the laundromat tomorrow to wash the soaking wet clothes left in there now. The Maytag repair person will be here on Monday. It better be able to be fixed!!!

    I wish it was my old one, but it is only 14 months old. Of course, as soon as the 1 year warranty is out, it begins having problems. And I never thought about extending the warranty because my old washer was a Maytag and lasted since 1991. It was still working when I sold it to make room for this new one. I never had one issue with it at all. And this one was supposed to have fewer problems because it has fewer parts (according to Maytag); and it's a high efficiency washer. It has worked beautifully all year, and I have loved it. But, now, who knows how much I'm going to have to pay to get it fixed. It could be the computer or anything.

    Thanks for the suggestion. And as far as my being VP, I'd love to be...only for the other side. I'm a Democrat Hockey Mom, and frankly, just as qualified as Palin, and definitely on the side of the citizens of America and not the Republican Party.

    On to the washer. I will take your advice with pleasure, and pray all works out. I am very good at "schmoozing" to get what I want, so hopefully it'll go well. And funny you should mention, we are going to be getting our kitchen ready for our house to go on the market in the spring, if the economy turns around after the election. So, we will be looking for appliances in the near future. So, that should be a great incentive for them to make me happy. 
    The repair person is coming tomorrow between the convenient hours of 9am and 5pm. What should I do about that? Allow them to come as scheduled? I really need the washer to be fixed, or replaced as soon as possible. I have lots of hockey and football uniforms to wash...and it's going to get really stinky if I have to wait much longer.

    Hey Everyone! Thanks so much for all of your help and comments, luckily my husband and I are pretty good at negotiating things. We called Maytag directly and told them the situation, and they promptly gave us 50% off all of the parts we needed to fix it. Well, since what we needed was an RPS Sensor Control Board and a Wire Harness, and the labor to fix it, we knew that wouldn't get it. It was going to be about $400 after spending $1000 on the washer only 15 months ago. So, we called back and said that we weren't satisfied. Once we were passed along to a supervisor, they agreed to send us everything at no cost, and pay for the labor...as they should! So, ultimately all we're responsible for is the original $70 diagnostic cost when the repair guys first came out. No one will reimburse us for that. We were told today that the parts should be in within 2-3 days and then installed the following day. 
    I also informed Maytag that I would be buying the extended warranty after this problem was fixed, and they agreed. They also said that it would cover the entire machine for any further issues. 
    I knew that those were two very big items and that we DID get a lemon. And you'd better believe that if any other problem arises after this, I will be getting a NEW machine. Other than this, I have loved it. It washes well, and it's fabulous for washing hockey equipment. I just can't believe that for $1000 we got a machine that conked out so quickly. 
    Maytag was very good at responding to the problem, but we did have to ask and ask. Ultimately the issue was resolved, but what a nerve racking problem to have to deal with. 
    Thanks to you all, especially NGAFM, for all your advice and help. I'll let you know if it works after the parts are replaced.

    I have a Maytag Bravos and it shuts down after filling with water and displays an F for an error code, which is what the other lady had on hers.

    Washer will add water on every cycle, then beeps different, shuts down and shows F. Doesn't spin

    My washer fills up and runs half the cycle and then it beeps and shows a f 51 number what does that mean .

Lets try this first!
Unplug the washer for 5 minutes and then replug and try it to see if this reboots the system like when a computer acts up, we do the same thing for most electronic devices!
If for some reason this is not helpfull, open the user guide and see what the tell you is the meaning of a code"f" on your specific machine!
How old is the washer?

    here is a thought, just in case it would fall into this category??


    If an appliance is ten years old or more I do recommend that my customers save their money and not put good money into bad!
    The newer machines pay fo them selves in savings of wtaer,detergent and electric in only a few years!

    You get together all the service invoices and organize your self with the sales slip and or service slips if there are any and call GE.
    Ask customer service for a supervisor! And if needed the supervisors supervisor, if needed.
    Do not take no for an answer! All the while you must be nice and pleasant and civil! Even to kid with them slightly as to show them a positive attitude!

    Then we are going to get them to do a whats called a "PUSH-PULL" in the appliance industry. The manufacturers call dealers everyday trying to get us to do this for them!

    You tell them when you bought it and how many times service has been to your rescue! OR HOW LONG IT HAS BEEN ACTING UP!
    Since the 12th month! BUT YOU THOUGHT IT WOULD PASS AND GO AWAY BY IT SELF!!!!!!!!!
    With documentation of dates, if you had any service!
    But no service till then is okay too!

    Be calm, nice and reserved! BUT FIRM!

    You want them to fix the problem , or replace this lemon with a another replacement machine!
    And ask them if this is a model flaw .

    WARRANTY TIME MEANS NOTHING WITH DOCUMENTATION!

    IT'S EASIER TO KEEP THE CUSTOMERS THEY HAVE THAN FIND NEW ONES TODAY!!!!!!
    EVERY DAY GE, MAYTAG, WHIRLPOOL,FRIGIDAIRE OR SOME OTHER MANUFACTURE ASKS DEALERS TO DO A , "PUSH PULL" FOR THEM.

    THEY PAY US TO ORDER AND DELIVER AND PICK UP THE LEMON FOR RETURN TO THEM!
    NO COST TO THE CUSTOMER!
    Not even delivery.No matter what the dealer says to you about money! No money, honey! Got me?The companies forbid the dealers from taking any money from the push pull customer !
    They pay us!!!
    Unless you want to tip the guys on the truck.

    Some times I've told my customer that when it's past warranty that for good measure, Tell them,
    "I just took a loan to remodel my whole kitchen, and I have gutted the kitchen and found all my stainless steel Ge, MAYTAG(WHAT EVER THE BRAND) appliances that I am ready to purchase, BUT !
    But I put the sale on hold because I cannot in good faith follow through with this buy until I see that your company does indeed back up their product!

Maytag Bravos XL HE Leaks Adjacent to Bleach Dispenser, how do I fix this?


Fill it with water by hand and see what happens. Tape paper towels in the suspected area. Makes it easier to see. Part 2 ans: so the water is over powering the drain...that sucks. You are right, the valve is probably letting too much water out. I don't know if it is adjustable but I do know it'll probably cost a lot for an itty-bitty brass valve. If money is not a problem replace the valve. If you are a DIY'er, I'd try to use some sort of clamp on the hose leading into the dispenser and close it just enough to slow the flow down. Another idea is to open the drain up by cutting away some of the screen if it has one. A better source than me is to go to repairclinic.com and email them. They have a lot more experience than me. I did appliance repair as a side to handyman for 20 years & fixed just about everything for 50. I never had any formal training.

When my Maytag bravos washer starts to wash cycle it stops with an F 51 code. it dose it every time it agates


Cause: suds. The wrong detergent or the wrong amount of detergent, makes the motor overheat.
Why? In my opinion when suds are detected the program needs to make them go away for fear the clothes won't be clean. So the program makes the motor do extra work to try and fix the problem. The poor washer motor gets worked to death because the water ain't right. This washer is designed to work with a small amount of water. Only a tiny amount of soap is needed to do the job. Put a cup of detergent in there and the machine is gonna constantly run way past time to be done just to get rid of the detergent. This causes the machine to overwork the motor and destroy the rotor position sensor.

Possibly the timer needs to be replaced, if a few of the teeth on the disc get broken off, it will not turn, and that causes it to NOT go into the next cycle. Happened to me, thank God for warranties
