Your Sony receiver is in protect mode because of component failure or overload. The cause has to be found and corrected before you can use it again.

Hello my sony audio/video control center #STR DE335 is in PROTECT MODE.. and i cant listen to it..can u please tell me whats wrong?

PROTECT display indicates that receiver got serious problem in output amplifier section and protection mode is activated to avoid further damage.
Output amplifier section should be tested by qualified technician to find out and replace defective part(s) to solve this issue. Local repair shop will do this job as it is not user level repair.
Thanks.

Sony STR DE 197 Reciever with No Sound

I have the same unit. My best recommendation would be to remove all speaker wiring, and try new wiring with another pr of speakers, since the "outdoor " speakers were rained on. the protect mode that the unit went into sounds like it did because the speaker outputs were shorted due to the rain, so ensure that the speaker output terminals are not shorted and dry...also see if output is still availalable at the headphone jack...if it is, the pre-amp section is still good , in which case the protect mode and no volume output out of the speaker jacks may mean that youve blown the ouput trasnsistor finals.
I hope this helps.

Sony STR-D460Z receiver

I have had this problem several times with Sony receivers in the past. The issue may be frustrating but these receivers are idiot proof. It is doing you a favor by tripping and not setting your house on fire as well.

Explanation:
Many things like improper wire crossing or touching due to too much of the insulation stripped off can cause this. Thunder storms and power surges as well have been known do this to Sony receivers.

Solution:
Unplug the unit and remove the cover. Look for any blown fuses as sometimes this is the problem. Take the fuse to a Radioshack to find new ones. However, it is likely you will need to take it in for repairs. This usually costs around $100. Find a local electronics repair shop in your area ( "TV Reapir in the yellow pages") or call Sony to send it to them.

I hope the latter works.

PROTECT DISPLAYED ON RECEIVER

This generally means you've got a short somewhere, and the received is trying to protect itself.

My suggestion is to disconnect all of your speakers at both ends, and reconnect them.

Most times this happens because a speaker wire is lose, and the positive and negative connections are touching each other, causing it to short out.

Sony STR-DE445 protect displayed

It sounds like a bad solder connection. It just needs to be soldered up, if you take it into a shop just tell them it doesn't need any new parts, it just needs to be soldered up.

Or, if you can solder it yourself, or know someone that can, that would be much easier.

Help

check/replace your speaker wires. If a wire came loose, it will go into "protect" mode and shut down, to protect from a short circuit.
