Question about Dryers

1 Answer

We have a Maytag dryer that is 7 years old. It runs on propane. Recently it started getting louder during the drying cycle and it keeps getting louder. It sounds almost like a buzzing (NOT like the buzzer when it is done drying). Is there something I can do to fix it? What is causing it? Is there some sort of maintenance that should be done other than cleaning the lint trap?

Does the noise continue for a few seconds after the dryer shuts off? No regular maintenance required. Also, please list model number (usually located behind door, near door switch.)

Never saw a response to my clarification request, so I hope you have resolved you service question. Without further info, it's hard to give good advice, but you might look at the blower wheel to see if it is spinning loosly on the motor shaft. That will make noise, and usually continues for a few seconds after dryer shuts off.

Your dryer has a moisture sensor, if it senses that the clothes aren't dry enough it will extend the cycle. A couple easy things to check:

1. Be sure the spin cycle on your washing machine is working properly. If the clothes are too wet when you add them to the dryer your dryer will need to add more time to get the clothes dry

2. Be sure your lint filter is cleaned after each load, and have your dryer exhaust vent cleaned- it could be clogged.

if replacing the rollers didn't fix the squeak, you need to replace the teflon drum slides and drum gasket material. mine sqalled so much it would run you out of the room. now it's quiet.
