5 hp Briggs and Stratton snow blower

No spark

    8 hp briggs & stratton on tiller. Installled new points/condenser and set gap @ 0.020. no spark. Was running but erattically, ie, after it warmed up, began to misfire. Noticed coil had approx. .030 gap on one side but other side was touching flywheel. Set gaps the same but still no fire.

Easest way is to remove shutoff wire from coil and then see if you have spark - if this is a point system it prob needs points and condenser

What oil viscosity is required for 5.5 hp engine?


Any good grade on SAE 30 will do just fine unless it is on a snow blower or and cold weather operation where you may need a muliti viscosity..good luck..

SAE 30 will do..no need for muti viscosity for mowing..if snow blower or any gold weather operation you may want Muti viscosity like 10-30 good luck..

Mtd snow blower 8 hp oil capacity


What engine do you have? Tecumseh those are usual 18-21oz Not sure with briggs, but will be around a 1/2 qt (16oz) start there. Add a little at a time to bring level up. get back if you have and need more specifics.

17.5 hp Briggs & Strattion has no spark


unplug the harness to the engine should be a 5-6 wire give or take then crank it look for spark if you get spark that way check the safety switches if no spark change the coil

Some times, the seals not sealed yet not being run. Check all your oil and gear oil levels and run it. Hope everything will be ok then.

I have a Master cut 3.5 , the spark plug is not with the mower and we cannot remember the spec of the spark plug !!! Any idea


If that is a 3.5 HP Briggs Engine you're referring to then I believe you want a (Champion) CJ8 plug. Cross-references to the following mfg's:
Autolite 255, Bosch WS8E, Champion CJ8, 843, NGK BM6A, JOHN DEERE AM54450, LESCO 010769

use a champion RJ19LM spark plug, you will see that the engine is built by briggs and stratton.hope this helps
