Question about Mitsubishi WD-57731 57" Projection HDTV

57" Mitsubishi won't power on, blinks green timer light

It sounds like you have the exact problem I experienced yesterday. The green timer light blinks on, I hear a fan powering on, then it powers itself back off again. Did you get a solution to your problem? Is it the same solution of replacing the capacitors? Or did replacing the lamp help?

This happened to me too after a power outage (tv was plugged into surge protector). The timer light blinks but tv wont turn on.

I've got the same problem here. I've also had the air flow problem among others. These will all be solved as soon as I can get the thing to a tall cliff.

I didn't realize this, because it happen over time, but the screen was getting dimmer. Perhaps I watch too much television in the evenings and never watched it during the day when it was so nice out.

The problems with the fan running, the green light flashing and not powering up (but sometimes I'd get lucky and it would), ended up being a warning of what was to come. The lamp was going, but it did not give me an accurate indication it was the lamp. Eventually, it did though. So, if you get the same symptoms I experienced, it may be a good indicator you need to order a new lamp. After all, My TV is about 2.5 years old and apparently that is a fair life of these lamps. It was our primary television for most of the lamps life.

The good news is, replacing the lamp is a DIYer, no special tools, or lengthy complicated fixes.

It is a common failure of the 57" Mits. DLP. The problem is a defective thermistor and is covered by Mits. Contact a local repair shop and they will fix it free (parts & labor)

Blinking green light (timer light). No video, no sound. Error code 12. This model has no DM board so it's not the better known "capacitor" problem.

Error code 12 signals that no failures were detected , which means that it's a power source failure. You will need to check it - the board sits on top of the main board.

Try a system reset by unplugging the set and waiting for about 3 min then replugging it in. If this problems persists contact mitsubshi for technical support, I have replaced entire signal board chassis for this same problem, they will run you through a few common things to try using the front panel buttons.

Blinking Green Timer Light

I suspect the lamp area is VERY dirty as is the cabinet's filters and fans. This causes great stress on your tv and lamp. Take the time to clean all of them fully. Is the unit in a dirty area? or in a high temp area? DLP's dont like high temp or contaminated areas as they are NOT air sealed units.
