Question about Nikon D70 Digital Camera with 18-50mm Lens

Stray line on viewfinder

Just bought a Nikon D70. Noticed a line running from the lower focus bracket down to the bottom of the viewfinder. Lighter than the reference grid but clearly visible in bright day light. Line only appears on power on - hence do not think its dust. Has anyone experience this?

Re: Stray line on viewfinder

These lines are normal. See the last paragraph on page 8 of the D70 manual.

There's a diopter control near the viewfinder to adjust the viewfinder to your eye. Try adjusting that while peering into the viewfinder and try to get the focus brackets and the data at the bottom of the viewfinder into focus.

No, you shouldn't. The D70 works as SLRs have worked for half a century, allowing you to compose your photos through the viewfinder. The ability to use a dSLR as a point-n-shoot camera, wobbling at the end of your arms, is a relatively recent development. Nikon introduced it into their lineup with the D3 and D300, released years after the D70.

Perfectly good photos but image in view finder will not focus Nikon D80 camera

Try adjusting the viewfinder diopter. There's a little dial just to the right of the viewfinder. Turn it while looking through the viewfinder. You want to be looking at an unfocused view or a blank wall. Turn the dial until the focus brackets are sharp. Make sure you do this with your shooting eye.

I have a red line through my photos.

Answer ID 16497 Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? Why do I sometimes see a faint vertical line in my viewfinder? --> With some DSLR cameras, a normally clear LCD screen is used to display Auto Focus area brackets in the viewfinder. When power is supplied to the screen, you may sometimes see a faint vertical line appear in your viewfinder. This is perfectly normal and is just part of the finely etched circuitry used to power and illuminate the liquid crystal segments of the AF area brackets.

How do I set my D70 for continuous shutter firing? I want to be able to hold the shutter button down and have it take continuous catures.

Turn the Command Dial while holding down the Shooting Mode button to cycle through the different shooting modes. The one you want is the overlapping frames. The shooting mode button is just to the left of the viewfinder, next to the Bracket button.

For full details, refer to the "Choosing a Shooting Mode" section in your manual.

Nikon D60 is suddenly taking very dark pictures

I have had "dark pictures" from each of my Nikon DSLR (D70, D80, D200, D300) cameras usually when taking pictures from a tripod and/or the self timer. Situations where you take your eye away from the viewfinder which allows stray light to enter thru the viewfinder and throw the auto exposure way off. Not sure if this is what is happening to you.

I had something similar - it could well have to do with which AF mode you've got selected. Look in the menu.
