Question about Kenmore 62602 Electric Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer doesn't run on it's own or heat

Dryer does not stay running on it's own. When you hold down the button it will run but not heat. (I tried duct tape, but did not dry the load) We had a repair person come in who said we needed a new motor. It is still doing the same thing that it was before. He did not fix anything.

When I tape the start button down it will run and dry clothers. I changed the relay for the door because it was broken - but it did not fix the problem. Any suggestions. Thanks!

Dryer won't stay running without holding down the start button

It may be the centrifugal switch on the motor. The push button starts the motor and as the motor spins up to speed the centrifugal switch closes to keep the motor running. Hope this helps.

The dryer still runs well, there is no heat and you have to run the dryer hours before your clothes are dry

This could be one of several problems. The most common problem that causes no heat is a clogged duct or vent. If air is not flowing out of your unit due to a clogged vent or duct, it will immediately overheat and shut down the gas burner, in gas models or the calrod heating system in the electric models. Try removing duct, checking for clogs in the duct and at the connector at the unit itself. Then check the vent inside your home and on the outside wall for lint clogs.

Must hold start button to run. no heat

disconnect power and remove lid. Test the door switch w a volt meter do so opening and closing the door not pushing switch if circuit stays open try pushing switch with finger. If pushing closes circuit then adjust switch. If circuit stays open replace switch. If switch operates with no problems then it is the motor. Check all connections and vacuum lint from motor

Dryer shuts off when releasing start button. Will run while pressing down start button, but no heat is generated. Sears repair man wanted to replace Even Heat Control Board for $350. I bought the part...

replace the motor, as you are holding in the start button you are making the dryer run in the start winding of the motor, it is designed to only stay in this winding untill the centrifigual switch on the motor automaticaily switches it to the run winding, when the motor switch knows that it is using the run winding it closes the motor switch contact for the heater to come on, replace the motor
