M-AUDIO STUDIOPHILE BX8a (woofer)

I have the M-AUDIO STUDIOPHILE BX8a  and the woofer has stopped working now  for the most part.  It kicks in now and then  but that is less and less all the time.
I have no warranty. So waht can I do to fix this?
I opened the speaker and everything looks/smells good on the inside.
Thanks for any help.

Hey I have the same issue and I found that this seems to be a manufacturers defect. See this thread here -http://www.bwacksforum.com/forums/archiv...

Hi David

The fault may be the bass driver itself or the Low Frequency power amp built into the speaker box. hard to determine which it is because it is intermittent. There are a couple of things to try. when the fault occurs.

  1. just lightly touch the cone on the bass driver see what happens. If it fires up again, it has failed soldering on the spider wire connections from the terminals to the cone. This can be repaired by a decent sound guy the does speakers, or a specialist near you that can be found easily enough. A new replacement driver is also an immediate option if you don't mind spending the bucks.
  2. if the above didn't work, to prove to yourself where the problem may lay, you could swap the bass drivers from one box to the other and see if the fault follows the driver, or remains with the speaker box. If the electronics are faulty, unless you have some decent experience with soldering and fault finding, you may be best to get it to a repair guy,
If you cant get it sorted, please provide me with your location(not address:)) and I will be able to locate a decent guy that knows what he is doing for you. Cheers

M audio studiophile BX8a deluxe has very hot back panel when on after a few minutes

There is a problem with the amplifier internal to the unit, most likely from the main power transformer. Return to the place of purchase, or a service center for repair/replacement.

Speaker comes in and out... woofer blown im guessing.. what can i do to fix it before i end up sending it to m audio to be repaired

Does the tweeter keep playing when the woofer cuts out?

It is rare for a speaker to cut in and out, check all wiring connections and if possible connect it to a different amp to test, the amp can cut in and out just like a speaker. Try switching it with another speaker and see if it cuts out aswell.

Hope this helps!

Thanks

M-audio Bx8a's one monitor very low volume compared to other.

NO, I HAVE HAD TWO PAIRS OF THESE SPEAKERS. tHE SECOND PAIR I HAD FOR TWO WEEKS AND SAME PROBLEM, EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT SIDE GOES OUT.

I Insert a compressor on the stereo buss to protect the speakers from transients and they just loose the woofer everytime.

They cannot be trusted, DONT WAISTE YOUR MONEY.

Woofer not working on new bx8a speaker

Hi ermo

Your new speakers are BiAmped, and if a woofer is not working then it is probably a fault in the amp or connection for that woofer, or the the woofer itself has a problem. If they are brand new, I suggest you take it back to purchase point to get sorted out. There is nothing that you can do that will NOT void your warranty. If you do not have a warranty, then get back to me here and we can work through the problem. Cheers

it could be a loose connection or the cone is cracked inside , the only way to find out is to open and take a look inside ,check the connections , the 2 wires from box to speaker, ALSO CHECK where the cone meets with the magnet , hope this helps AJ

Sounds to me like the voice coil is damaged. But without hearing it I wouldnt be able to tell you. If the voice coil is damaged there is no way to fix it.
