Installing Hardware

I am using Windows XP Home. I tried to install my new phone but the add hardware wizard stated that there was a problem and the device would not work with the computer. I have since tried to install a webcam but have got the sme message. I have recently purchased an 8G Flashdrive. When I plug in to the USB the same thing happens.
All of my other hardware works perfectly well, IPOD, Printer and digital camera.
