CTS 2010, RKE system does not work for the driver door. The key is in my purse, my purse on my shoulder and the driver's door only refuses to open even if I hear the doors unlocking. It's driving me CRAZY. I have to open the back door or passenger door reach in and open the driver door from the inside, step out and then back in through the driver door. I must say, at first the trunk would open spontaneously, that got fixed. Then it was the passenger door who would refuse to open, that got fixed but now, it's the driver door. Any idea what is going on here? It's really not fun!

The RKE is controlled by the SJB - smart junction box ! Fords BCM - body control module .
Principles of Operation
Power Locks
The SJB controls the power lock/unlock feature of all of the vehicle doors, including the liftgate, to lock or unlock based on the input received from the door lock control switch, the keyless entry keypad or the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter. Power locking and unlocking of the doors function independently of the key position, vehicle speed or transmission position. The smart junction box (SJB) activates internal relays to supply the correct voltage and grounds for the door lock actuators.

Your best bet would be to take to ford dealer or some other qualified repair shop .
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Unlock
The RKE transmitter feature provides lock/unlock functions independently of key position, vehicle speed, or transmission position. The RKE transmitter feature provides a 2-step process for unlocking the doors. Upon receipt of the first request for unlocking the doors, the RKE control feature requests the SJB to unlock the driver door only. If another unlock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB to unlock all the doors. This feature can be changed to global unlock, so that all the doors unlock on the first press of the unlock button. To toggle between the 2-step unlock and the global unlock press the lock and the unlock button on the RKE transmitter at the same time and hold the buttons for 4 seconds. The turn signal lamps flash to confirm that the feature has been toggled.
Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Transmitter Lock/Unlock Control - Lock
The RKE transmitter feature requests that all the doors be locked when the lock button is pressed. On any press of the lock button with all doors closed, the SJB provides 1 flash of the parking lamps. If any door is ajar, no flash occurs. As soon as the last door is closed, the SJB provides the flash of the parking lamps. If 2 presses of the lock button are received within 3 seconds, the horn chirps once, and the parking lamps flash twice to indicate that all the doors are closed and locked. If any door is ajar when the second lock request is received within 3 seconds of the first, the RKE transmitter feature requests the SJB chirp the horn twice without flashing the parking lamps to indicate it locked all the doors but 1 or more doors are ajar. When the key is in the ON or START position, the parking lamp flashes and horn chirp confirmations do not occur.

The black contact points inside your RKE get dirty, and contaminated...you can try cleaning, but not a lasting fix...your local auto parts store sells replacement housings for RKE about $15. I would try putting the guts from your current RKE into a new case, as the new case contains new contacts...you must match the RKE exactly by model #...chances are this will work...if not then you will need to replace the RKE at about $70...AutoZone sells these replacements in my area...hope this helps

Sure you did put in a new battery? sure you did insert it correct? not the other way around? sure you did use the correct battery? like CR23 or AAA?
Sure all contacts in the battery compartment and on the battery are clean and shiny?
just a few things you could check.

Anti-Theft - Perimeter The anti-theft perimeter protection feature is controlled by the front electronic module (FEM), the rear electronic module (REM), and the driver door module (DDM). The alarm can be armed using:

• the LOCK button in the remote keyless entry (RKE) transmitter to the DDM, which sends a message through the standard corporate protocol (SCP) communications network to the FEM.
• the driver or passenger door lock switch if the corresponding door is open when LOCK is actuated.
• the key in the driver door lock cylinder.
• the RKE keypad by pressing 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneously.

The FEM and REM then monitor all features, which activate the alarm in the event of an unauthorized entry.
The luggage compartment lid lock cylinder does not disarm the vehicle's perimeter alarm. The luggage compartment alarm can be temporarily inhibited through the luggage compartment lid disarm switch, located in the luggage compartment lock cylinder or by opening the lugguage compartment with the RKE transmitter or the RKE keypad. Once the luggage compartment lid closes, the perimeter alarm system immediately starts monitoring the luggage compartment. The perimeter alarm can only be disarmed:

• by unlocking the vehicle using the RKE transmitter.
• by unlocking the vehicle using the driver door lock cylinder switch.
• by cycling to RUN a valid programmed key in the ignition switch.
• by entering the correct vehicle unlock code on the RKE keypad.

Additionally, an ignition switch tamper circuit and a signal hardwire line from the FEM to the REM are monitored.
If any of the above features receive any activation once the alarm is armed, the alarm activates the visual and audible alerts. ......

and some cars the driver has a master switch and local switch.
and some have a kids safe switch that kills the other doors.
i dont have the opr,guides. for liberties.

in this case , this is a programmable feature. most newer jeeps.
you can program most cars. for (only driver door works with fob)
this is for security, (like airport parking , alone, at night)
the operators guide (lost already )covers this. in the glove box.
most folks don't read it ,they just drive to jeep service and
ask to have it set like you want. and pay $100.
it could be a fault too... but that will take checking above first.
on my other car, i must click 2 times to open all doors, (GM)

the dealer will scan the PCM/BCM puters. to see if they are throwing
DTC errors. any good scan tool can do this.
and check fuses first. never last. or get egg in face.

To Unlock the Doors and Liftgate
Press and release the UNLOCK button on the RKE
transmitter once to unlock the driver's door or twice to
unlock all doors and the liftgate. The turn signal lights
will flash to acknowledge the unlock signal. The illuminated
entry system will also turn on.

Remote Key Unlock, Driver Door/All Doors First
This feature lets you program the system to unlock either
the driver's door or all doors and the liftgate on the first
press of the UNLOCK button on the RKE transmitter. To
change the current setting, proceed as follows:
• For vehicles equipped with the Electronic Vehicle
Information Center (EVIC), refer to "Remote Key
Unlock," under "Personal Settings (Customer-
Programmable Features)," under "Electronic Vehicle

no year.
the metal key must work , metal keys work, so car on fire you can get kids out. (by law)
you saying no metal keys too, not just lost fob parts. RKE.
car came with 2 RKE keys, but no year stated so..

what does without keys mean?
dead fobs or no metal keys at all. or all 4 parts missing.
on mine i have 4 RKE fobs and 2 metal keys , for IN CASE>

if no metal keys, call the locksmith he can make one.

possible the lock rod clip broke inside door or became disconnected will have to remove door panel to get to clip there made of plastic and usually break or pop during cold weather

Automatic Door Lock/Unlock
The automatic door unlock function is a vehicle personalization feature with the following 3?programmable modes of operation:
1. All: All of the doors will automatically unlock. 2. Driver: The driver's door will automatically unlock. 3. None: The doors will need to be unlocked by a door switch command or by pressing the the lock button on the RKE transmitter. The All or Driver modes may also be programmed as to when the automatic door unlocking will occur.
1. Key Off: The door(s) will unlock when the key is turned off. 2. Shift to Park: The door(s) will unlock when the vehicle is shifted into P (Park). The delay lock function may be enabled or disabled. When the function has been disabled, the doors will only lock by a door switch command or by pressing the the lock button on the RKE transmitter. When enabled, the doors will not lock until five seconds after the last door is closed.

The actuactors for your locks have a little motor in them. In this motor there is a resistor that will give out over time. Usually the locks gradually stop working over time. You can remove the actuator and take it apart and fix by removing the resistor in the motor and putting a peice of copper in its place. Takes about 30 minutes per door if you know what you are doing. Do a google search for ford windstar door lock fix and you will find several blogs with detailed descriptions of the repair.
