Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

For weeks now I've had to slam the lid on my washer to get it to work. Now nothing! The same thing happened to my dryer...close the lid and nothing. It wasn't even a year old and someone had to come out to fix it. My mother had a whirlpool for over thirty years..so did my grandmother..NO PROBLEMS IN ALL THOSE YEARS!!! Are you people making these machines in China???????????????????

The common cause for this symptom is a lid switch malfunction. If you are slamming the lid, you're only making the problem worse. The switch is not designed for that kind of abuse. If you are in the habit of slamming the lid, or placing items on top of the washer lid, this shortent the life of the lid swtich because it can bow the lid to the point where it doesn't make proper contact and/or break the switch. The lid switch in the new models is the same part as what the older models were manufactured with.

Top load Ge washer model number WVSR1060A1ww will not spend after rinse cycle, open door and pressed lid switch and washer would spin as long as pressure is applied to switch, close door and washer will...

There can be many reasons and i will do the best to cover everything that can happen with your washer to cause it from not draining or spinning. I will attempt to cover the basic things that can happen with washing machines.

First thing to check if your washer is not pumping or spinning is to see if the motor is running. If themotor is not runningb>then check the lid switch. When the lid gets slammed it hammers that switch and eventually will bend it or break it completely. Some washers will wash but not spin or pump, others will do nothing. This switch is located under the lid on the edge of the frame around the lid. Often there is a hole that a pin from the lid will go through and push on a lever that is the switch. Check that it is not simply bent, so that it does not trip the switch inside anymore. To change or check the switch the top will need to be raised or the front removed. Getting to it, is often harder then the replacement.

A humming sound in the cycle knob

Make sure that the room is quiet then check that there is a clicking noise from the lid when it is nearly closed

If not then the microswitch is out of whack and needs adjusting

When you slam the door down it is probably enough to make the switch but then the machines movement will undo that action

My whirlpool thin twin filled with water and stopped!:(

Well if it fills then it needs the lid shut to work. So if the lid is shut it hits a lidswitch and if that lid switch is broken then nothing will work washer wise right? As far as the dryer that may be a blown fuse but nothing on the washer could stop it from running cept maybe a bad cord or breaker.

Washer won't start after lid is shut, if i slam it, it works!

sounds like your lid switch is loose ..look at the tab that sticks out of the lid and watch where it close's. inspect the switch see if it is loose or broke
