Re: AC adapter supplied by a third party

No, Minolta cannot guarantee the compatibility of any third party AC Adapters. We recommend the use of Minolta AC Adapters, AC-1L, and AC-2L. Any damage caused to the camera as a result of use of a third party AC Adapter may void your warranty.

Charge battery inside the camera

Sorry, you can't. The camera does not contain battery charging circuitry. You need to use the supplied battery charger or a third-party equivalent.

Camera does not respond

I see you can't even look on the screen, because you have to start the camera first, before you can switch between taking pictures and viewing. You you not even can see an error displayed on the screen.
Most obvious is the battery, or its connections. The manual says:
"The camera does not work even when batteries are installed."
Insert recharged batteries in the correct direction. "Inserting the battery and the SD/SDHC/SDXC memory card (sold separately)" (p. 13), "Charging the battery and setting up using the supplied CD" (p. 14), "Charging the battery with the supplied USB-AC adapter" (p. 17)
Battery performance may have been reduced temporarily due to low temperature. Take the batteries out of the camera, and warm them by putting them in your pocket for a while.
Then to make sure it is not the battery they advice to connect an external USB-AC adapter.:
An F-3AC USB-AC adapter (available separately) is recommended if the camera will be used for extended periods.
Note that the power cable supplied with the USB-AC adapter is for use exclusively with the USB-AC adapter. Do not use with other devices.
With the adapter, the voltage (and current it can deliver) could be enough to switch on the camera.
If it works, you should take aout the battery and check if the connection point of the battery and in the camera are clean and shiny. If not, please clean them with a dry cloth. Never use a sharp tool to clean electronic contacts. The manual says the battery will live up to 300 charge / discharge cycles. If the camera won't work with the battery and it works with the USB AC adapter, replace the battery.

I don't have a charger.

You need either the AC-LS5 power adapter which plugs into the back of the camera to charge the battery when it's in the camera, or better still a Sony BC-VC10. The latter item charges up to two batteries at once leaving the camera free for use.

There are third party chargers available but I've found out the hard way that they often either take forever to charge the battery or at worst damage the InfoLithium chip inside the battery. As genuine batteries are expensive and the genuine charger costs less than a single battery it's both a gamble and a false economy to use anything else.

I hope that you've found my posting to be of use and ask in return only that you take a moment to rate my answer.

I've provided links to the BC-VC10 below and further down to the cheaper AC-LS5. I'm not suggesting that you use these suppliers, just that you use the links to give you a starting point to shop around for yourself:-

The on off button is stuck in. is there anything you can do or do i just buy a new one.

Reset the camera
  1. Turn off the camera, if possible.
  2. If an SD memory card is installed, remove the card.
  3. Remove power from the camera as described below:
    • If you are using only batteries for power, open the battery/memory card door and remove both batteries.
    • If you are using only the HP AC power adapter, disconnect it from the camera.
    • If you are using both batteries and the HP AC power adapter, remove both batteries and the power adapter.
  4. Wait for 15 seconds. Then reinsert the batteries and close the battery/memory card door or reconnect the HP AC power adapter to the camera. If you are using both batteries and AC power, try each method separately.
Turn the camera on and off. If the issues is not resolved do the following

Connect the camera to the optional AC power supply
  1. Connect the camera to the optional AC power supply. Ensure that the AC power supply is connected to a working power outlet.
  2. Try turning the camera on.
  • If the issue is resolved , you do not need to continue with the rest of the instructions in this document.
If the is not resolved ,then repeat setps 1 to 4 abiove but remove the batteries and keep the AC power adapter connected.

AC adapter

Yes, the optional E-7AU (p/n 200 751) can be used. An AC adapter is especially useful when downloading images to the computer or displaying pictures on a TV. Use of a third-party AC adapter is strongly discouraged.
