I commonly use the analogy, laptop batteries are like flash light batteries, the more you use them the quicker they wear out. This is true, with the exception of that laptop batteries are considerably more complex, and have built in regulators and fail safes. What you have to keep in mind is that it is still a battery and they eventually wear out, so, when ever possible keep it plugged in, and you will get the most from your battery.

Acer aspire notebook 5810tz. battery charging light stays on blue. battery will not charge has less than 20% computer will shut down when power cord is detached

Sorry to say but it sounds as if your battery is nearing the end of it's life. How long have you had this problem for? and how long have you had your laptop? Battery's let alone computer's don't have much more than a 5 year life span, that is if there maintained properly. My HP Pavilion is starting to slow after having it to 2 years, and battery life seems to have shorten by 30min. Well I hope this isn't the case as battery's are quite costy. But if this helps in any way, best of luck!

My battery dies very quickly

If your notebook unexpectedly goes into Sleep mode while you are using it but the battery charge is not low, you may need to recalibrate your battery. You should also recalibrate the battery periodically to maintain the accuracy of the battery gauge. Follow these steps to recalibrate the battery.

  1. Connect your notebook to AC power and let the battery charge completely.
  2. Disconnect the AC power and restart your notebook.
  3. Completely discharge the battery.
  4. After the battery is completely drained, reconnect your notebook to AC power.
  5. Charge the battery completely until the battery status indicator turns blue.

Laptop is not getting charged once it is switched on. where as when the laptop is off it is getting charged. Very much reduced baterry life.

I would start off by looking at the output voltage of the charger then pull out a volt/ohm meter and see if its actually putting out the correct voltage. If it is then u have a bad battery or DC jack in the laptop.

After charging baterry doesn't hold charge more than 20 minutes.

depending how old your laptop is the batter is on its last leg. What happens is if you leave your laptop plugged in all the time, the batter gets overcharged and begins to die. For the next battery you acquire remember to charge it for its required time then drain it out by using the laptop. This will prolong the life of the battery.

Dell Inspiron 6400 Battery

your miracle, most laptop batteries have a life span of 4 years tops, but that if you take care of it,but most dont realize over charging kills the cells in your battery, and if you have it plugged up make sure you go into power settings and put it on ac/dc power settings.and if you have it away from home without power, put it on best battery settings, and let the power die all the way down before recharging, that will give it a full charge lasting longer.but as for your battery it might be time for a new one

Sounds like you have snapped the centre connector in the laptop. If you look at the AC connector on the laptop there should b a "pin" in the centre. These frequently snap off, symtoms are :
Battery will not charge
Will not turn on from AC supply.

There are some firm which will replace the ac jack for you but it will cost.
Interent search .. replace DC jack on toshiba

Or it could be a broken/damaged power pin that is causing the problem. Every time you tug or pull on the pin it causes damage...eventually it doesn't work at all. When you get it fixed you need to invest in a CRD (Cable Retention Device) like shown here. . .

Gateway MX8711 Battery Won't Charge

As long as the laptop still works on AC then your battery is probably dead. It is a few years old already so it probably wasnt far from the end of its useful life anyway.

Try not to drain laptop batteries down all the way to zero - Its best to always have some charge in them to extend the life.
