Check your speakers are plugged in the right hole (normaly green), If they are it may be a fault with your motherboard.
Try this website for drivers they may be more up to date:

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound and the video and game controllers also display adapters you might see a yellow question or exclamation mark? ! or a red X Right click to install drivers if you dont have a motherboard disc you will have to download the drivers http://download.cnet.com/%7Bvalue=http://www.download.com/jetway-motherboard-driver/3000-2098_4-163033.html http://download.cnet.com/Realtek-AC-97-Driver-Windows-Vista-Windows-7/3000-2120_4-10962344.html

I am getting picture but not sound? inspite of re instaling the sound driverrs for mercury mother board. PVM7 Pro

if your computer came with a motherboard disc the sound drivers could be on it
you might have to uninstall then restart your computer then reinstall both the sound drivers and the sound card make sure you have both of these devices backed up to a disc before uninstalling
a yellow? question mark means you need to install/update driver to do this
right click to install driver also
click start control panel administrive tools computer management device manager scroll to sound, video and game controllers you might see a yellow question mark? Right click to reinstall drivers
click start control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select appropriate speakers also audio you will find 3 drop down lists make sure you have the correct settings there
also
click start control panel sounds and audio devices you can adjust the volume there also select speaker volume you can change your settings there you can also tick in the box place icon in taskbar
if his does not fix the problem

have you tried this control panel sounds and audio, volume, advanced, speakers select the appropriate speakers from the drop down list or navigate to the device manager scroll to system devices + to expand, system speaker right click properties then select use this device (enable) also you might check
the speakers plug/outlet is usually at the back of the computer you will have to open up the computer to check the lead attached to the rear of the input plug make sure the connection is good
try cleaning your computer of dust using a fine air blower from a compressor making VERY sure that there is no MOISTURE in the air line specifically around the sound card and the CPU central processing unit dust causes static to build up in a computer
hope this helps

Compaq presario V6406 TU audio driver

Hi Darshak,
Did Compaq send you to this site; (Windows Vista drivers).
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3446931

Conexant High-Definition Audio Driver. If this fails to install or card is not recognized, make sure the settings in the bios for sound is enabled. If it is than the only other possibility is the sound chip has gone bad. (This can not be repaired, only refurbished).
Chances are the laptop is warranted for at least one year. You need to check on that. Compaq will not let you know this unless you ask. Check your recipt date.

Good luck Darshak!
Thank you for using fixya.

No sound device in Sounds and Audio Devices after Realtek Sound Driver install

Download the attachment I found, unpack it into your folder of choice.
Then move over to the control panel and select that "PCI Device". Rightclick and install the audio bus drivers I provided for the PCI Device. During installation Windows should find something like Microsoft UAA Bus driver, I don't know the exact name. Do a restart after installation and everything should work fine.

NO Audio even after putting in own sound card

Difficult to diagnose from afar but go to Start>Run, then type 'dxdiag' without quotes and see if; when it does a sound and video test anything shows up.
