Disable the onboard audio in the system bios and goto your local box store and buy a sound blaster pci audio card. The onboard sound or NIC is usually the first thing to fail, the only way to fix it is to disable it and replace with an audio card or replace the motherboard.

I have a Realtek audio chip on an Asus motherboard and a set of 5.1 speakers installed on my pc. I have set up my sound settings at 7.1 in order to play all speakers. They all heard when I check them...

If your motherboard audio chip supports 7.1 audio then it should support 5.1 too. If so then go for 5.1 since choosing 7.1 and using a 5.1 system will result in loss of audio as you are missing two channels (6 channels on 5.1 and 8 channels on 7.1). The 5.1/7.1 option through the sound settings should emulate surround audio through almost all players. For VLC, try the following:
  1. Go to [Preferences]--->Check [Advanced Options]
  2. Then expand [Audio] and select [Output Modules]
  3. Change [Audio Output Module] to [Win32 WaveOut]
  4. Click save and restart VLC
Hope that helps. If not try Media Player Classic instead of VLC. It supports 7.1 and other surround audio by default.

My pc doesnt play sound at all when i play music or video clips even when windows starts.

Hello
Try these steps 1. Check cables, make sure the audio cable is in the correct colored connector. make sure the power is hooked up 2. check power, make sure the speakers are turned on if needed 3, check volume. turn it up on the speakers themselves. then check the volume in windows (often located by the clock in the lower right part of the screen. or you can search thru windows control panel under sound. Or you can open windows media player and turn up the volume/unmute there 4. update drivers which you said you did 5. test a wide variety of audio thru a wide variety of different sources. windows media player, youtube, pandora.com etc.
If none of this works then its time for trial and error. You will want to try the spearks in a known good computer. or try known good speakers with your computer. see if you can figure out which is the problem. you may have a defective sound card or the speakers may be defective. at which time you will need to replace.
Hope this helps, good luck!

No sound

Hello hassahabi, what I think happened to your sound is this. When the apple iTunes software installed you allowed iTunes to take over all your sound files within the system. To gain back your system sounds try this: Open windows Explorer & left click once on C:\
Once high-lighted, left click on Tools & left click the tab " File Types ". Scroll down the list to, WAV.
Left click once on WAV - wav sound. The sound file should open with Windows Media Player & not to ipod or iTunes. Click the, "Change" button. The "Open With", window will open. Find, Windows Media Player in the list. Left click once on it & than click OK. Most of windows sounds are located in the C:\Windows\Media folder. I suggest you also set MID to open with Windows Media Player.
Once finished close all opened windows & restart your system.
When windows finishes loading open the sound icon by first double left clicking the sound icon. Check that the wave slide bar is all the way up! Close that window. Now right click once on the sound icon & left click "Adjust Audio Properties". Sounds and Audio Devices Properties window will open.
See if the play button is no longer grayed out.
If it is grayed out you'll have no choice but to uninstall the apple software to free your system sounds.
Next round of ipod iTunes installation watch your screen's & choose not to allow iTunes to control, *.wav sound files.

Good luck hassahabi!
