Here are some links you or someone you know can use (in order given) for test help, but read the safety warnings first:
http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/diode.html
http://www.microtechfactoryservice.com/mag_test.html

You can usually find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.

There
should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the
control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is
very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.

GE spacemaker microwave all seems to be working but won't heat

It is the magnetron circuit that has failed. It the part that generates the microwaves that heat the food. If it is making a loud buzzing sound when you try heating something, then the magnetron is shorted out. The replacement cost for the magnetron is almost as much as an new oven, so it does not make sense to have it fixed. Sorry.

Ge spacemaker microwave jvm1640cj03 stopped heating. interior always clean. light, timer etc working.

If it stops heating and the other parts of the oven still work, the problem is with the magnetron circuit. If it makes a loud buzzing noise when you try to heat the food, then the magnetron has shorted out. The replacement cost for the magnetron is almost as much as a new oven, so it does not make sense to have it fixed. Sorry.

Ge microwave jvm160wj01 was working and suddenly started buzzing, gave bad electric/burnt smell and buzzes. Still buzzes and does not seem to heat now.

Sounds like the magnetron just shorted out. Its the part the generates the microwaves that heat the food. Buzzing sounds are a symptom of a shorted mag. Usually not worth fixing since the magnetron costs almost as much as a new oven. Sorry.

Oven hums when turned on and doesn't heat, has burndt odor

Hi

Thanks for using FixYa. If it’s a loud hum/buzz sound then 90% it’s usually a bad magnetron and other times it’s a bad high voltage diode. However, from what you have described it seems to be the magnetron. Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or post a comment for further assistance.

Thanks

Ge spacemaker xl 1800 - no heat

HI, the loud popping noise was the Magnetron tube. this is the main heating device. the noise filter is also damaged and, should be replaced as well.

In conclusion, replacing the Magnetron tube and noise filter will fix this unit.

GE spacemaker JVM1851 Problem

It's very likely the high voltage transformer or the magnetron.

If it's within the magnetron portion of the warranty (usually 5-9 years) but out of the original full warranty (usually 1 year), then your manufacturer will cover the part cost, but not the cost to visit you or the labor charge to do the work.

Some manufacturers will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. If nothing else, you can save about $75 by taking it to the shop yourself.
