I am having the same problem. I just refilled my black-ink cartridge (after this started) too, and I don't want to have wasted my money.

I have this same thing, along w/the lights for Copy, Scan Photo Card blinking. It started about 2 nights ago, and I don't know what else to do. I couldn't even turn the thing off-had to unplug it to see if that would help.

I've found out what was wrong. My cartridges expired. HP has put a "limit" on how long your cartridges last. They do this to try to prevent refilling. Cartridges typically last for a little less than two years after the expiry date listed on them.

You can fix this (as I did) by buying a couple of new cartridges # 56 and #57. They sell them together in the same pack for 50-something bucks in Walmart.

Hope this helps.

My printer exhibits the same problems as the above two posts. Furthermore, the diagnostic check down load from HP indicates all systems "OK". I have removed the cartridges, checked them for I know not what, and returned them to their proper place. Light still flashes.

Make sure that you're using genuine Lexmark cartridges. If you are, try updating the firmware of your printer. Just go to http://bit.ly/ghfW8H to download the firmware update.

Reseat the printead again and the cartridges then reboot the printer. If it doesn't help, try replacing the cartridge.

Replaced new ink keeps saying right cartrige is incorrect wont let me print. the cartrige is correct i paid $50.00 for a two pack of black and color ink!!!

Wiping the nozzles with a moistened soft cloth or removing and reinserting the cartridges usually helps. The cartridges for the Lexmark X7170 are black: 32/34 and color: 33/35. If these are the cartridges that you purchased and even tried your old and new cartridges yet the problem persists, please don't hesitate to contact Lexmark technical support.

Wont print lights flashing even after new hp ink installed - what now?

I had this psc and usually the ink was leaking or the cartrige head needed cleaning, or the cartridge was not installed properly. Just check these 3 things and you will find the problem.

Black Cartridge

Hi - If you are saying that the right side cartridge is the black cartrige that you have replaced, then I have two suggestions that may help. If the cartrige is a new HP genuine product I would take it back. If not, I would return the cartrige you have and buy a genuine HP for the printer. Though an expensive solution, there is always a chance of defects from either party. The remanufactured or refilled cartrige will have a date on it. The circuit board on these can wear out and then not be recognizable over time. Second suggestion if you have not already done this, a cotton swab or Q tip dipped in distilled water(damp only) to wipe down the circut board on the printer where the cartrige will connect to it, may help. Turn off the printer to do this. Make sure it is dry when you turn it on and reinstall the new cartrige. Hope this helps.

Printing with only the Black ink cartrige.

Yes. The printer won't operate without both cartridges installed, even if one is empty.

Changing cartridge

Just above where you feed the paper there is a door - open it, wait for the ink cartriges to stop moving, to your right - remove and replace in the same way the cartrige you're replacing.
