Gateway boot problem

A friend gave me his gateway to get a virus out of; he said that it still operated well, but had issue when it was online. I have it at my house, but it will not do anything but bring up the logo screen with boot menu f10 and bios settings f2 displayed

i do not have his keyboard, I have a multimedia HP usb attached; is there a chance it will not detect the keyboard?

If it is not seeing the keyboard, you need to get a ps2 keyboard, go into the bios settings, and make sure usb keyboard support is turned on. Alot of times the default is disabled.

If the harddrive has a virus, make sure you reimage it or format it completely before using the unit.

Where can i get a free diagram of the motherboard layout for the Gateway 835GM?

There are many things to be considered by having a problem with your boot up. First common factor is infected with the virus of your operating system or corrupted, then possible your hard disk drive is having a mechanical trouble due to improper shut down or by hanging up. If this is the case, you have to reformat your computer operating system and or change you hard disk drive in order to fix the said problem.

1. You didn't specify if you are installing Windows XP or which operating system.
I assume that you want to install Windows XP. I am not sure as to the age of this unit and if it is compatible with the above mentioned OS.
2. If you have a valid key then any Windows XP Operating disk will boot your PC unit provided you have allow the device in the bios to boot from it.
3. You will need to select the CD/dvd device to be enabled for the pc to see the boot disk. Usually selecting F12 or F1 will allow you into the BIOS setup for this.

You will need to ask your friend for the user manual to follow the bios setup procedure. I don't think there is a user manual for this model online anymore.

Virus?

Restart your computer, and press F8 until the white-and-black "boot" menu is visible.

Choose "Safe Mode".

See if the CD-ROM device will work.

Session 3 initialization failed

Ok, after countless hours searching and sleuthing for this issue, I could not find a resolution...until now. This is my first post ever on a technical forum, so be gentle to me. I will probably never reference this form, so you if this helped you, please let me know by sending me comments to my email at: cancermage@hotmail.com
Technical Symptoms: Blue Screen (BSOD) Session 3 Initialization Failed (Session3_Initialization_Failed) STOP 0x0000006F (0xc0000034) This BSOD would load for both normal and safe mode. The operating system in question was Windows XP Home SP2.
Reason: The issue occurred after I ran a virus scan using a PE boot disk that deleted the C:\windows\system32\smss.exe system file.
Resolution: By using the "dir smss*.* /s" at a DOS prompt from the PE boot disk, I was able to search the whole computer for any available files and it found a clean version in a directory. So to fix the issue I copied C:\windows\$ServicepackUninstall$\smss.exe to C:\windows\system32\ using a PE boot disk.
Acknowledgements: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/153742 , this link gave me a hint that it may be smss.exe (even though it references win2000). Upon looking at the antivirus logs, sure enough the smss.exe was found to be infected and deleted it as it could not disinfect it. I'm assuming if I did not have a virus free smss.exe file on the C: drive in another folder, I may have to pull it from a CD or find it online.
Sincerely,

My PC computer

Hello,

freezing cause by sever virus infection and Hard drive error, if virus infection, virus can be eliminated but the system become slower, and if the hard drive error (bad sector) sometime can be resolve but most of that error HDD put to the bin.

anyway, if this cause by virus infection then, boot your computer in "safe mode with network " option by pressing "F8" at first start and then scan your computer for viruses, you can use online scanning here: http://www.precisesecurity.com/antivirus/online-scan.htm

if same issue occur, then better backup your files or save your picture in flash dive or any removable drive. and reformat and reinstall the windows operating system.

pls do not rate me if my solution not solve the issue and you need more further information. but if is invaluable solution rate me fixya.
