Synthogy Ivory italian Grand won't play with Edirol UA-4FX sound card

I've had other instruments work fine on my Win XP pc 3ghz duo Pentium 4 system. The Edirol UA-4FX usb card, and a kurzweil k2500 controller. But after I installed the Synthogy Ivory italian Grand standalone, I can't hear anything. It worked before with the Kurzweil sounds and also with various vst's, including Pianoteq, Garritan Personal Orchestra and others. What could be the problem? Thanks in advance!

That didn't work. I should mention I got the new Ivory Standalone application version 1.7 This is fairly new, and does not need the basic package to work. I should also mention my other instruments do work; I only have a problem with eht Ivory. Of course, that's the most important to me! I've also started getting computer crashes, where the screen suddenly goes black with deep blue things on it. I also upgraded the Edirol sound card driver to the latest.

  • dreamsmith Sep 04, 2008

I also want to reiterate that the sound card has been working fine for at least a year. My problems started when I installed the Synthogy Ivory, and I did that exactly as they instructed. It doesn't work in the standalone state or as a plugin in Sonar Producer 6 software.

I just noticed that the Ivory piano screen indicates that I DO have midi input when I touch the keyboard. So the midi is working, but no sound comes out.

I'm getting computer crashes, where the screen turns black with dark blue jumbled-looking words on the screen. I have to power down and reboot. I'm still getting no sound from my Synthogy Ivory Italian Grand and my Edirol UA-4FX sound card. I've checked everything I can think of; and there are no signs of conflict in the Control Panel Device Manager. I can play audio from Windows Media Player, and am getting other sounds, like midi from my Kurzweil K2500 keyboard. But the Standalone Synthogy, OR the VST plugin Synthogy Ivory will not play with Cakewalk Sonar Producer 6

  • dreamsmith Sep 05, 2008

I'm stil not in business with the Synthogy Ivory Standalone.

  • dreamsmith Sep 05, 2008

I'd like to thank everyone who tried to help me. The problem (at least the standalone problem-not the VST plugin for Sonar 6 Producer), has been solved. Here's how: I thought about it, and realized that the only change I had made before both my Synthogy Ivory AND Pianoteq pianos stopped working, was the installation of Microsoft's Service Pack 3! I then simply uninstalled SP3, and immediately both standalones (Synthogy Ivory and Pianoteq), worked fine! I don't have the Synthogy working yet in Sonar 6, but I'm working on it. So again thanks; if I can't get the plugin to work in Sonar 6, I WILL be back!

  • dreamsmith Sep 06, 2008

I don't believe you're correct. I ran a virus scan - none found. And as I reported, I uninstalled Service Pack 3, and now the piano works as a standalone. I'm still working on the VST plugin for Sonar 6.

But thank you for trying to help me.

Unfiortunately there are a number of variants to Windows XP. You don't indicate what variant you are using. You have a software conflict at the driver level. There is a disconnect or mis-understanding between the sound programs and the base line operating systems drivers. This often occurs when a program uses a field that is technically off limits but unused. When the OS decide to make use of it, odd things start to happen. There is no way for me to confirm this, but 30 years in the software support arena and I've seen this before. Especially with Micorsoft and other venders.

Double check that the version of your software is compatible with your specific version of XP.

There are known problems with SP3 and some driver level code. I am not surprised to hear that this was the problem. Most resources are being spent on Vista support at the moment. I don't know what changed within SP3 to cause this, but it is being worked upon by Microsoft as well as the software vendors.

I was reading over this and this sounds like a software conflict. I'm not familiar with this software or devices, but I am very familiar with computers, and everything you've posted leads me to believe that you have a software conflict with two similar programs that are trying to either do the same function without one overriding the other, or trying to use the same resources. Also, the screen issue leads ne to think that you may have a virus, or that the operating system has a glitch. I'm going to suggest that start by scanning for viruses, then a system repair with your operating system or recovery disc. If the problem persists, then you may want to look into software compatibilities.

Try to see the connections of your device to your computer and see also the troubleshooting on manuals. then try it to another computer if still the same as the previous computer.

Edirol ua-4fx Synthogy Italian Grand problem

What operating system are you using? It appears, based on other experiences, that the Synthogy UA-4FX fails to function on Windows XP once SP3 has been installed. Is this your situation? If so, uninstall SP3, and you should be set. However, as you installed a new driver, that may come into play if it does not reach a functional state. Further, there are often problems with other devices when this is the case. So, if it is a recent purchase, as it seems from your presentation, it may be a faulty piece of hardware. If this is not your situation, please post back with further detail regarding the PC/OS and other equipment & drivers you have in place. Good luck!

If this information assists you in resolving the problem, please take a moment to rate the solution at a "FixYa" level. If you do not feel that you can rate at a "FixYa", please post back with more information regarding what has occurred subsequently and/or more details regarding the situation, and I will gladly help you until we have reached a definitive solution. Thank you for using and rating FixYa!

Problem with guitar

1.make sure the guitar/mic switch is pointed to the guitar side. increase the guitar/mic level. increase the output level. 2.another thing you can do is check the "sound and audio devices" to see if everything is set to Edirol UA-4FX. If everything isnt, fix it so that it does. and remember to disable your computers stock sound card. Edirol UA-4FX is your new sound card from now on. 3. if thats not the case, try reinstalling the drivers. 4. If all of the above fail, you probably have a loose connection/ bad wiring in the guitar/mic 1/4" input. you can choose to open up the device and solder that yourself and possibly lose your warranty or have the entire unit replaced. Hope I helped! good luck!
