Hi,I am installing a NETGEAR 54 Mbps Wireless USB Print Server with 4-Port Switch WGPS606.First of all I connected the print server with a ethernet cable to my laptop and clicked on auto run option on the cd and everything was smooth until the message popped up during the last stages. the installation assistant cannot provide a suggested ip address for your print server. manually assign an ip address and subnet mask for the print server. Your print server must be on the same network as your wireless router" I have no idea which ip address to put as I tried with the default ip address mentioned in the manual. I was not able to login to the print server by using browser and typing the http://192.168.0.102 but was able to do by running the autorun file on the cd. OS-windows XP

SOURCE: Computer can's see Print Server in Add Printer

Make sure the printer has been connected locally first and that the print drivers have been installed. This should then allow you to add the printer via the set up.

Hello, How do I connect my Epson stylus PHOTO px700 to my laptop?

NETGEAR’s 54 Mbps Wireless Print Server with 4-port Switch allows you to connect one or two printers to your existing wireless network, without using unsightly Ethernet cables. Simply place your printers anywhere in your home or office that works best for you, plug them into the print server’s USB ports, and the Smart Wizard set-up function automatically guides you through configuration. Then you can send your business documents to a high-end color printer, and your kids’ homework to a black-and-white printer. The print server also acts as a wireless Ethernet bridge, connecting a cluster of up to four PCs and laptops without requiring dedicated wireless adapters. I t employs powerful WEP Encryption and WPA-PSK to keep your wireless network secure, and interoperates with all standard b and g wireless devices. All this in a sleek, space-saving stand-up case.

How do I connect with my WGPS606 if there is no setup cd and the default ip does not work? My router has encryption and the WGPS needs the info.

you need to set your print server for dhcp, you need to log in and verify the settings OR just set it back to default because dhcp is default. gl

Hi there, can I use the WGPS606 as an AP ? Many Thanks

I understand that you want to use the print server WGPS606 as an access point. Regarding the concern, please note that it is not possible to configure or use this device as AP. This device however can act as as wireless bridge. It can connect wirelessly to the wireless network of your wireless router/ap and provide wired connection.

    Hope this helps.

    Connectivity

Perhaps an ip conflict. If so, assign server an ip outside of normal client range.

Can't connect WGPS606 wireless printer server to cable router

suggest plugging print server directly into p.c via blue ethernet cable during setup. Then run setup program and then pick an ip address that works with your router (in same network ip range of router) that does not clash . I would use print server as a switch if it is close to the router by ethernet cable between router and wireless print server. Then both should work
Wireless to server and other wired computers as well .

Unable to print through the print server

First, make sure that you can print with the printer connected directly to your computer using a usb cable.

    - Make sure the printer driver is installed and you can print with a direct connection
    - Get the print server's IP Address, NetGear should have already provided you with this info.
    - If your'e using windows xp, go to control panel > printers and faxes
    - Right click on the printer icon and go to properties
    - Click on the PORTS tab
    - Click on ADD PORT
    - Highlight Standard TCP/IP Port then click on New Port
    - Click next
    - Input the WGPS606 IP Address
    - Print a test page...

    -hope it works!!

Installation assistant cannot detect print server

Results of attempting to connect the Netgear Wireless Print Server WGPS606 and the Canon MF6550 multifunction laser printer. I was on the phone for several hours last evening (March 9, until about midnight EDT) with a very competent support agent from Netgear (actually in the Philippines). The Netgear setup Wizard software would not connect the Print Server to my Verizon FiOS wireless G router automatically, so the Netgear support agent walked me through it manually. The Print Server connected that way, for sure. Then we manually attempted to connect the Print Server to my Canon MF6550 and subsequently, my HP 932C Deskjet. Neither printer is on the WGPS606 compatible list, nor is either on the known incompatible list. Now we know - both printers are INCOMPATIBLE with the Netgear WGPS606. I bought both the Netgear Print Server and the Canon MF6550 at Staples on Sat., March 8, 2008, based upon the assurance from Staples staff that it would all work. The question now is whether ANY brand of wireless Print Server will work with the Canon MF6550, or do I have to return this printer and get either a Canon with built in networking (ethernet or wireless) or switch to the Brother equivalent (MFC 8870DW). If I get a (multi-function) printer with built-in Ethernet networking, does the Ethernet capability bypass the USB incompatibility problem, or will the problem remain?
